Replaced my Fuel Filter, something wierd happened though...

I just finished installing my fuel filter and it was kind of strange, most the fuel that came out of the old one was clear, but then it started getting kind of mucky and had some crap in it, that is from the "in" side of it, the gas that came out of the "out" part was clear. The gas coming from both of the lines was clear too, but there must be alot of crap in the filter. I'm going to cut it open tommarrow (or maybe later tonight) and I'll post some pics.

I dont know how many miles were on the old filter, it came with the car, but I did drop my gas tank yesterday to replace some lines on it and checked inside of it and it looked brand new. All of the injectors are well within spec too.

That would be a good thing.
Clean gas going to engine, dirt trapped in filter.

Sounds like you replaced a filter that functioned properly and as designed. Nothing weird about your findings

I normally use 93octane arco, but I've only put about 2000 miles on the car since I've owned it, this filter looks as if it could be origonal, or atleast based on how hard it was to get off, its been on there a while.

ok, time to go cut it open, yaaay! hehehehehehe

I'm curious on what the inside looks like too, but for the love of everything intelligent, use a hacksaw!

lol, na, there was alittle smoke but nothing to worry about.
I think it was wayyy past time for a new filter, this one had some crap that looks like mud in it (you can see it on the second picture, some of it creeped out when I was cutting.

That's definately not a OEM filter, looks more like a Purulator filter

wow....how long since you had that filter in there and what gasoline grade did you used? You might wanna try new gas station to pump your car next time cuz some of 'em cheap places such as Sam Club has known to have problems.

Courtesynissan is selling the OE filter for around $12 bucks. Dirt cheap. Don't see any need for a Purulator substitution.

no, Mike wasnt saying to use one, he was just answering a question I had of if it was an OEM filter or aftermarket.

I replaced mine with a Napa Gold FIL-3023

It's all dirty because you keep using that crappy gas from Arco. Stop being so cheap and start going to Chevron!

j/k

That did need to be replaced, though

NOOO.

I'm going to change the Durango's fuel filter, about 95% of the time its on Arco (the only time it isnt is on road trips when we cant find one, hehhe). Then I'll change the subaru's and see how it looks (overdue aswell).
