Hope your driver's seat doesnt do this...

A few weeks ago I got in my car at the local mall and the seat back just fell down. I was like wtf?? It wouldn't stay up, so my friend had to prop me up by sitting behind me with his feet against my seat. I looked inside the upholstery and was shocked to see a cracked part. I obtained a seat from a junkyard out of a '93 GXE Saturday and went over to Studman's house. He then removed my seat from the car and attempted to to take the seat back off. The damn thing just kind of fell apart on the left side. He then took my upholstery off and put it on the donor seat back. Here's why....might make some of you want to look under your upholstery

The damage:

And...donor seat back to the rescue!!! It's the dark
orangish one on the left, the offender is the light one on the right.

So did the metal just fatigue where I guess that black bracket must attach to the silver back rest? Any warning i.e. was it loose at all? Ever been in a wreck or other possible damage? Maybe I should carry a 2x4 in the maxima...

It pretty much just fatigued over time. Getting out of the car by rolling across the seat bolster was probably a contributing factor.

Umm, if you have to roll across the seat bolster to get out, how far back do you have the seat?

wow.. wtf were u ppl doing (I don't really wana know
- iv torn out the seat and cut passage slices in the bottom cushion and put in some home made "L" brackes on each side.. now the sides never fall, like a race seat.. anyway i had to drill through that metal dish plate on the bottom.. that stuff its strong! HOW THE HELL DID U cause that much damage to the seat..
-but forcing ur friend to sit in back and prop ur seat up.. that sh*t is funny

I didn't cause the damage at all. The seat just got old and decided to break in that particular spot. One of those weird things to break I guess. And it's not my weight, I'm well within the range for my height. Also, my dad isn't heavyset either, so it wasn't his fault.
