Hot Tranny

I noticed when i drive my max the heat that comes from the gear shifter is abnormally hot. Do they make transmission oil coolers for the 94 SE 5sp?

No, they don't, as the tranny oil isn't circulated like in an auto. Additionally, your shifter is right above the heat shield for the catalytic converter, which gets hot as $hit. I just installed my short throw shifter 2 weeks ago and when I took off the cat it was extremely hot even after the car had been sitting for a bit. That is probably why the shifter area appears abnormally hot.

you don't need a fluid cooler on a 5spd because the fluid does not circulate anywhere outside the trans like an auto...you might just be missing the heat sheild that goes under the shifter between the exhaust

I'm missing my heat shield and it does get a little warm. Any harm in not having one (floorpans catching fire)?
