Found out wats wrong
Ok so i droped my car off at the shop last night for a emission related issue and a wierd pulling sensation when turnin right on long right hand turns, like highway on and off ramps. Well i called them and they were still looking over it. The guy said that it has a slight miss at idel and says he might have to clean the injector/s and is trying to narrow it down to which ones. He also says it might have to do with the front 3 coil packs being cracked and he aslo wants to set the timing since it was off. As for the pulling/ dipping sensation, he said the right front ball joint is absolutely shot and he wouldent even drive the car like it is. I have to call tomorrow to get a estimate for everything.
$1000 for all that?!?!
duuuude.. take you car somewhere else.
Ball joints are $50 for OEM and take 20 min to change.
control arms are $160 or so OEM and take 30 min (max) to change.
coil packs are ummm, $60 each I think and take 10 minutes to change all 3 front ones.
setting the timing takes 5-10 minutes and requires no parts.
There's a little over an hour of labor and $400 in parts..
no way in Hell that's worth $1000- UNLESS he's changing control arms and ball joints on both sides, changing the coil packs and all the plugs (about $60 for good ones)..
in THAT case, it's
2 hrs labor for suspension
1 hr labor for coils, plugs, timing.
$320 for TWO control arms
$100 for TWO ball joints
$60 for plugs
$180 for coil packs on the front.
$50 for an alignment.
so that's $710 in parts plus 3-4 hours of labor.
if his price is $75/hour in labor, then you're getting in the ballpark of a decent price.
