A couple members said they were going to check out the car today. So hopefully, tonight, they will have some nice information.

Damn, I didn't know my maxima was gonna spark this much interest. Which is good I suppose since I'm trying to sell this thing.

What can I say, you guys know way more about Maxima's then I or my dad know. We bought this car planning to restore it but never really got around to doing it. It has some details that need to be fixed but is a very dependable car. 30k on the engine. I put about 8k on it since I had it. Had it for a little less then a year, no problems. Runs alot better then my brother's 94 altima. It picks up really nice too. I haven't put up too much stuff like vids or whatever because i don't really have the time...plus I offered anyone to come down and test drive it themselves

No fraud....to be honest, I didn't know how much this car was really worth. I was happy atleast getting a grand off of it. After ready all the posts...I feel like I'm underselling it. I'm hoping to get a few hundred more for it then its at right now but I'm sure someone else would appreciate this car more and fix it up more.

Auction ends tommorow. Only one person has showed up to see it so far. My dad would be available to show you the car tommorow. I want to get a fair price out of this thing. You can get ahold of me at mikebel3@hotmail.com I'll give you my number and address if you want to see it.

ohh all praise the VQ

I think its cool they were able to get it all to work. I'm esp. interested in the steering as I wouldnt mind a closer ratio rack, and the progressive steering is pretty fun too.

Oh yeah, I wonder if the Lower Control Arms are 3rd gen or 5th gen, along with the spindles. Hmmmm.
please be 3rd gen
then again they probably arent

If someone comes up with a VE/VG to VQ35 conversion kit, I will jump on it! That would be an awesome swap. But there are several little issues that need to be thought out before that will work.

i would think it would be a very expensive swap unless you have some good hookups with salvage yards or find a very cheap 5th gen that had been wrecked.

Yeah you're right. It might even be too expensive for me. But if I can come across a cheap wrecked 2K2 Maxima in the next couple years, I might think about it. But for now, I think nitrous will have to do.

What would be the big advantage of swaping a VQ? And also, wouldn't the lighter VQ make a higher wheel gap in the front of a 3rd Gen?

Yeah, it would probably mess up the suspension. BUt that's nothing that can't be altered. The big advantage of a 3.5 VQ swap is ... what... 60 HP!!!? Pretty sick if you ask me.

or if you just went with the 3.0 vq you could get a turbo kit for it and easily pull 300 or more whp. its been proven many a time.

oh.... 3.5, sorry, I was thinking 3.0 VQ
yeah a 3.5 is the newer one right? like 2000+?
That would be sick

As we discuss this there is currently 8 hours left on this auction, I can bet this thing is going to sell for less than $2k as I previously mentioned. Is anyone serious about this thing?

The VQ30DE-K has 222 hp and 217 ft/lbs, not to mention a bolt-on turbo kit. It also has a great advantage of being 100lbs lighter, and yes there would be wheel gap but you could probably just cut the springs down a bit and it would be fine.

Why hasn't anyone who's gone to see it post anything about it? Probably because they are interested in buying it and they don't want every guy on the .org trying to outbid them.

that can be easily accomidated for compared to the other issues involved with the swap.. probably just use intrax in the front and eibach in the back to even out the drop

The funny thing is 100lbs wont raise the wheel gap much at all, you still have alot of nose weight sitting on the front of the car. The difference is the suspension and we can see it is different. I put boxes in my car everyday, in fact 4 in the trunk equals 100lbs I can put in 6 and the wheel gap doesnt change much, that is 150lbs.

I dont have anything to add but just wanted to post in this thread .

It is interesting...if I still have my car in a couple of years I may try to buy a wrecked 2k2 max and take 2 or 3 years to do the swap...actually I can do mechanical work better than I can body work (or at least faster) so it may not take that long LOL.

i don't know about that... i saw a picture of a maxima with the tranny removed and the wheels on and everything and the thing looked as if it were popping a wheelie.

yup...which is why his kinda seems fishy since the pic in the auction looks really close to that(nothing in the engine bay)

i mean the engine was still in there yet it was still pretty high up. the tranny weighs 75-100 lbs. depending on if it were an auto or manual (i can't remember which the guy had) but that much difference in weight could easily make it lift up from what i've seen before.

also, another reason why it could be higher up if it did have the 5th gen springs is the 5th gens are a bit heavier than our cars so lighter car + lighter engine + 5th gen springs and struts = the lifted look we are seeing in the picture. if i remember correctly the 5th gens weigh around 100 pounds more than our cars. i could be mistaken though because i haven't checked in a while. if so, that's a 200 or more pound decrease in weight for the springs.

this seems like a legendary thing. the guy comes from nowhere, the car is unremarkable/awful looking, the pictures are questionable, it is like photos of bigfoot. he says it is real. it doesn't seem real. it is on ebay. it creates mystery. there is no real hard evidence yet there is. huh???wtf???

It looks real to me. And I thought it was decided that it could be done, it just takes time and money. With a donor car why would you think its fake?

It looks real, but I would question any car like that anyway. I mean for the price he was asking, the condition the car appears to be in....I would wonder what was wrong with it, or why someone would spend all that money to do that, and ask so little. But it does show if you have money, and time, you can fit anything you want into a car......well....except for a Detroit Diesel V-16 turbo, running displacement of 4 liters a cylinder. Ah yes, marine diesels own.
