Bluebird AWD?
I was looking around the J-spec engine sites and one had a 1990 nissan bluebird turbo/intercooled motor with an AWD transmission. i wonder if that would bolt up to my 1990 Maxima SE ?
does this setup even exist or am i dreaming...

Not sure if that car uses the SR18DET engine or CA18DET - I think it's the CA18 which means the tranny would bolt up, except the starter motor is gonna be in the wrong place. That means changing the bell housing which means pulling the trannies apart - not a good idea. Once bolted up to the engine, you'd have to see if the transfer box clears the steering rack & the front roll bar so is a major job.
Haven't looked under a 4wd bluebird so not sure how similar the rear subframe is to the max or whether it uses a similar set up to our cars. I think it uses HICAS as well.
In terms of going rwd / awd, the bluebird attessa would make a great donor car & you'd have less fabrication to do than if you tried to put a skyline rear end in. It would still require a heap of work and major fabrication, though.

Anything can be done with a donor car ALOT of money and ALOT of time as we have seen (1990 Max with a VQ) If you really wanted to you could put a SB 350 in a max with a 9" Ford rearend but it would take alot of time and money! Is it worth it in the end? Why not just purchase the oraginal car and convert it too US specs would probably cost less and be more efficent! Just my thoughts though

The u12 "Stanza" version had the CA18DET and then the SR20DET(!!).There was a U13 "Altima" version, also, with the SR20DET.There is an Australian site that has a write-up on one....I'll try and find it to post here.
