swapping seats
swapping seats
I was at the junk yard today getting an antenna and motor, for $20, perfect condition. The max that I got the antenna from was a 1992 GXE with leather power seats. The front seats were messed up bad. My question is: Can I take the cushions off of my max and put them on the frame of the power seats. The end result being I have my cloth seats, but with a power motor. Please say yes it can be done.
It's possible, but very time consuming.. plan a day to do it... but why would you want to go through all that work for power seats? they're heavier and move slow. I can adjust my seat faster..
manual seats > power seats
I'd rather move the seats faster than have the fine adjustments. Although, I gotta say I think I like Chris's factory leather power seats more than my dealer leather manual seats

I guess you guys have a point, it would have been cool to have power seats though. I didn't think of how slow they would move compared to manual adjustments.
They move pretty slow, but I usually leave the driver's seat in one spot, only moving it about once a month or so when I do a really good vacuum job. I could give a crap about the passenger seat.
I do think that the manual seats would be lighter, but if the weight thing is a factor, get some racing seats like Matt has (which I think are sweet, BTW).
IMO, I don't think it would be worth it unless you found a nice set of leather ones that happened to be power.

Ok... here's the deal-io: I did the manual-to-power conversion and it took about 2 hours per seat to do. It's not as time-consuming as many people may think. And thank goodness the wiring was already there, so the 'power parts' were pretty much plug-and-play.
So, to answer your question Nmax92, YES - it can be done. I dislike leather just about as much as I dislike 5-spoke rims (a known fact here on the .org-y), so I wanted to keep my cloth seats, but have power. Weight wasn't an issue, since I pretty much 'retired' from any kind of racing, and I wanted the fine-tuning that power seats offered as opposed to manual.
Everyone has their own opinions about the whole manual-to-power thing. But that's MY story..
And if you need any advice/pointers/hints, PM me.
