Exhaust questions

I was looking under my car last weekend and noticed that my y-pipes flex section is breaking apart. Does that mean anything? Do I need a new one? Could that be one reason my car is loud? If so which y-pipe should I get? I want horsepower and a good pipe. please help. Thanks
Dan

if it's the stock pipe u can get a new flex and cut and weld a new flex.

if it's a aftermkt piece then i recommend picking up a new y-pipe.

if it's busted it's gonna be loud.

you want horsepower and a good pipe...i want a Ferrarri and a hot woman next to me.

do what your wallet tells u to do.

Geez, nobody is helping on this board. jk Dan

Anyway, www.warpspeedperformance.com !!!

Call them up... get a 2.5" Aluminized Ypipe for a 1992 VE30DE Maxima SE.... that is, assuming you have a 92 Maxima SE. Give them your credit card number and they will slap on about $220... or $200. Forget what it is. But it's cheap!

I am also assuming that you still have the stock Ypipe. If you do, then yes!,... get a WSP Ypipe and don't look back.

About your questions... YES it's probably the reason your car is loud. That is ALSO assuming you have a full stock exhaust. If you see noticable holes and cracks in your flex section, then you either need to replace that piece of pipe.. or follow my advice and order a new Ypipe from WSP.

This Ypipe will give you a HP gain of over 10hp, which is noticable! Assuming you have a completely stock exhaust, then this Ypipe will make a deeper tone come out of your muffler. But it won't get ANY louder. Which is a GOOD thing! Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your help. I have a stock exhaust except for a welded on magnaflow muffler. I will be ordering soon but I just had my tire completely blow up yesterday.

You said you have a magnaflow muffler. But you are curious why your car is loud? Unless you have a huge hole in your flex section, then you're loud b/c of that muffler you put on it. And you probably got slower from 0-60mph.

Why would he be slower from 0-60?

Most people think their car is going to get faster just buy putting a loud muffler on their car. But go test that thing out at the track and find out. Most of the time, you might get one tenth faster in the 1/4 mile. But I've seen many cars get slower by putting a big catback exhaust on a stock car. You WILL lose low end, and sometimes you will gain enough top end back to make it faster. Sometimes, you won't gain enough top end since the motor doesn't rev high enough.

In MY experience and in MY car with port work, I know a free flowing exhaust helps me in the 1/4 mile. But as for helping me from 0-60, I don't know if it helps at all b/c that is including the low part of my 1st AND 2nd gear.

So all I was saying is that it will hurt low end power and sometimes make enough top end power to make you faster. Keep in mind that their are other exhaust stuff people should look into OTHER than changing to a loud muffler. I can't possibly see how going with a loud muffler can make you noticably faster from 0-60.... on most cars.

Yeah that too. Like my cutout is one of the biggest holes in my exhaust system. I am not even sure it made me ANY faster from 0-60. But I am SURE it made me .15 faster in the 1/4 mile. And I get to be quiet on the street once again without getting any slower at the track.
