stock fuel pump ?'s

The fuel pump in my Z is borderlining being dead. I have the stock fuel pump from my Maxima laying around begging to be used on something. My problem is... the Z's pump is a out of tank pump while of course the Maxima's is in tank. Is it possible to run an in take pump outside the tank or does being submerged in the gas keep it cool or something along those lines??

I guess I mean compared to an inline. Could it still be cooled enough with the gas flowing through it or does it absolutely have to be submerged?

Needs to be submerged to keep it cool.
there are a few inline universal pumps available if you want/need

I may be doing a group deal on some generic replacement pumps very shortly though
