Anyone ever replace their condenser?
Anyone ever replace their condenser?
I just recieved a new condenser from Internetautomart (can't believe how fast it was shipped here, thanks!!) and am going to install it this weekend? Anyone ever done this and have some advice for me? It looks really easy but I'm just wondering if there are any things to watch out for or anything like that? Thanks.

Yep, there is a big hole in the front of the condenser. The reason I know this is because when I tried to recharge the system last summer I could hear all the refrigerant leaking out and was able to pinpoint the source. I think I'm going to need a new receiver-drier also because it has been exposed to atmosphere and will be shot. Not sure though.
Yes, you will need a new receiver/dryer. I 'think' the '93 and up were R134, so you won't have to worry about finding R12 (expensive) or retrofitting. You'll also need a good vaccum pump (expensive - see if you can rent one maybe) to remove any air/moisture in the system. To recharge - a good set of manifold gauges would be helpful. Have any problems - post a question at www.aircondition.com

it's definately a good idea to replace the reciever/drier whenever you have the system "open" for more than a minute or 2.
the recharge is easy. just besure to put in enough oil, but not too much. you buy 12 oz cans of r134 and cans with 2 oz oil and 2 oz r134 in one can.
