Well...this might be goodbye...

Well, my uncle bought a 1996 Acura TL fully loaded about 2 weeks ago from a costumer of his shop. After some engine work, he says the car is running great, if asked if I want it to replace my max as my daily driver. If I agree, then my max will go to my cousin. Haven't test driven it myself yet, but here are some specs I dug up:

3.2 liter V6
200 HP @ 5300 RPM
210 lbs/tq @ 4500 RPM
0-60 in 8.02 , 1/4 in 16.29 @ 89.40 MPH

Doesn't seem that much quicker than a VG, but then again, it's a newer car. I can't decide! I'm going to test drive it next week to help with my decision. What do you guys think? Anyone own a first gen TL before?

how many miles on it? if its reasonable, I'd say go for it. As long as the paint's good and its in better shape than the car you have, go ahead.

Doesn't seem better than a VG? 40 more hp and 30 more lbs/tq...that shouldbe enough, I love the Acura TLs, such a smooth ride...get it! Then let me buy your Maxima...skip yo cousin!

wow ..im surprised....most org member would probably be bashing the idea of you getting honda/acura car. its all about what you feel comfortable in. if its a smooth ride with low miles and descent body, then cop that joint!!!

it seems a hard choice, sort of. i prefer the maxima's styling. that is what would decide it for me if i were in your shoes.

i've never driven the TL. if it is a 5spd, the choice is harder. if it is auto, forget it. that would decide it for me.

personally i'd never consider a honda. the upside here is that the car is newer. and lots of aftermarket mods are available for it.

1/4 mile time sucks though. Seems like the VG auto. They are nice cars. Try looking for some TL forums to see what type of potential this car has.

That is what sucked about import discontinued trans. Costs soo much to fix and you're forced to do it becuase finding a tranny will cost the same price.

i dont really under stand what your thinking i mean if you just did a 5 speed swap on your max what drove you to do it since you aparently dont care if your next car is a stick. do you not like driving a manual or somthing

Maybe if I was still speed crazed then yes I would like my next car to be a manual. I spent more on stereo than performance mods. But for now, I just want a car that is comfy and dependable.

Drove the Acura today. Overall it's ok. Power delivery is smooth, but doesn't have the low end like the VG. The cabin is smaller than I would like it to be. So final verdict....

I think I'm gonna drive the max for a few more years

It is also heavier than the Maxima so that will suck up the hp/tq.
