TUNE UP Question!!
#3
I looked at oil coolers but was told the benifits were meager on a V6 unless really running your max hard almost all the time. Are you talking about a "tune-up" or a rebuild? Tune up consists of wires, plugs, dist. cap, rot. button, pcv valve, fuel filter, check fluids, replace air filter and change oil. Next step would be O2 sensor and maybe even a timing belt. I'm looking at a rebuild, which consists of (but not limited to) pistons, boring, gaskets, valve job, etc. I'm also looking on adding Stage II cams and JWT ecu. But, depending on cost, I may just go ahead and do the infamous "z" upgrade. Too bad no one will disclose their costs! Hint....Hint! I know the engine is under $1k, I've called. But, with the swap, wiring, and ecu, what is the final dollar? Hey, if it's under $3k, consider it done! So, how about the price? Anyone?

If you do not know what a "tune-up" means, then probably you should take the car to an auto repair shop and have the professionals handle the job.

Yup.......
not to say that he couldn't do it, but the way I learned was to watch my mechanic do mine the fist time, then come the next tune-up I grabbed my Haynes manual and got to work and finished with no probs!

Tune-ups in almost every internal combustion engine out there involves replacement of the same components.
Obviously if the vehicle is a distributorless (direct ignition) model, then you would not have to worry about rotors, caps, etc.

thanks but I have another Q!!
ok guys thanks for you help. I got all the components I need to perform the tune up on hte car *spark plugs, dist. cap , wires, oil, filter* . but the guy at the auto zone said " well you may wanna go ahead and cahnge your timing belt" . so my question now is that how hard is it to change the belt? anyone has done it themselves? if so would you post the steps here ? thanks in advance.

If I were you, I would cough up the $300-450 it takes to have it changed professionally.
