ok first let me let you guys know what i got....
jvc el khamelion head unit
4x6 aplines up front 40w rms
6.5 sony explodes in the rear 80w rms
kenwood 4 channel amp.....40w x 4 rms.....powering the 4 speakers
2 12' rockford subs
kenwood 2 channel amp....100w x 2 rms....powering the subs

well everything sounds really good when its at normal level and when i pump it loud but when i get really loud i start hearing some distortion and the sound isnt very clear from the inside speakers......im thinking that for there power rating and from being hooked up to the amp they should be able to go louder and stay clearer then they are.......if you guys have any input or suggestions to what i can do to make the sound quality better let me know....THANKS!!!....sorry that its long

First, try turning down the gain on the amp. If it isn't loud enough for you, then you need to get a more powerful amp, I imagine those alpines could take more power, seems like you just don't have enough. You could also try to get some high/ low adjustable converters, those might boost the output of the deck through the rca lines.

I have the same problem

i experience the same problem in my '93 GXE (white too! ). I have Memphis 6.5's in the back (100 watts max.). But i have the stock amp in the back, which may have been blown by the previous user, i'm not sure. Any way, it sounds great low but when i crank it , it's horrible. could this just be the stock amp still in there (need $ for new amp) or is it a problem with the car itself? that may sound stupid, but i'm not a real tech-savvy person, soooo i need all the help i can get. THANKS!

you have to get rid of that factory amp!!!!! its going to sound 100% better once you do, i am also going to recomend an aftermarket radio/CD its going to increase quality as well as volume

My suggestion to you...

First of all the factory amp for the speakers should definately be bypassed because it will do no good for your system.

And for your distortion problem I suggest that you try putting a crossover on your inside speakers. In case you don't know what that is, they are components that limit the amount of low frequencies to the speakers. This helped my system a lot and the bass from the speakers were limited so there was little distortion and the subs handled compensated for the bass!

Hope this helps...

Dave
