Best oil filter for a vg?

When I changed my oil last, I used some no-name filter that was in the glovebox. Since then, it's been making a loud knocking/tapping noise for the first several minutes after a cold start. If I stop the engine for more than a few minutes and restart it, the knock is back. I unplugged one sparkplug at a time and that didnt affect the sound. Someone said to change the oil filter, so I put on a Fram. Do Fram's also suck, or is there a more serious problem?

they say frams suck, but i live by them, there are 2 sizes that will fit...i get the bigger one... on the VE it hangs down a bit more than the original, but it works well.

Been using Fram filters since the early 90's with Valvoline 10w40. Haven't had a problem yet.

Did you put enough oil in when you changed it? The ticking is usually a sign of old/low oil.
