Brake pad fitting problem

I am in the process of installing new rotors and pads in the front, and when I started to remount the caliper over the new pads, it does not fit. The piston is fully compressed, and the caliper itself fits fine around the new pads and rotor, but the top bolt mount of the caliper does not line up. It is about 6 or 7mm too far away from the car, and cannot be pushed towards the car anymore. The problem persists on both sides. When I remove the new outer pad and put in the old, much thinner one, the caliper mounts perfectly and the bolt mounts line up perfectly. Any ideas? I need assistance ASAP I need to drive to work. Thanks.

you sure the rotor is sitting flush with the hub? maybe try screw down an open end lug nut on so it holds down the rotor.

don't forget to lube the sliding pins.
