Any tips for changing ATF fluid. CAr has 100k miles (90 GXE), should I change the filter too and gasket?????
Any type of ATF like Chevron???
Just drain and refill???
should I get something like this: http://www.expressautoparts.com/Part...20Filter%20Kit

does the tranny need to be removed to change filter??????

Thanks EVERYONE in advance...

Just drain it and refill it with the same amount that drained out.

Except by doing this you are not getting all the old fluid out. There will still be a lot of old fluid throughout the tranny. The only way to get all the old fluid out is to do a tranny flush like they do at Jiffy Lube. Of course you could drain and refill a couple of times, say like once per week. That way you are more likely to get a lot of the old fluid out.

I've read that the flush could be dangerous if you have high miles though because it will loosen up dirt and stuff and cause leaks and ultimately a broken tranny. Don't ask me how true that statement is know, but it was said on this website by many different people.

Be careful. If the transmission was serviced regularly you probably are alright. If it never has or has been a real long time it could kill it. Have someone who knows what they are doing look at your fluid.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I just changed the fluid today. Simple drain and refill. I'll probably do it again in a few weeks.. just a note: the haynes manual says the bolt to drain the fluid can be opened with a 3/8 ratchet, but it actually needed a 1/2 ratchet (atleast on my car)
