What auto tranny mode do you use all the time?

I have always been driving in Comfort since I lived about 45 highway kms from work, because the car used to spend less gas in that mode. And I have not changed that habit since I moved to about 20 city kms from work. But today I noticed that my tranny was in Power and for the day of the week my gas level was pretty high. And I recalled switching into Power to pass some sick ******* doing crazy driving just before I filled up last time.
It seems that Power mode works quite well in city, considering that I am a slow driver. Any experiences on that?

I don't know about the gas issue. I think power mode just lets you redline longer. I think?

In my GXE I left it in power mode because I got a little more RPM's before it shifted, but also the tranny was going on that car. I still got 25MPG on the interstate, but in town it always sucked. Course now I got my SE with 5 speed (Thank God!!!!) and dont have to worry about that any more.

I use power or normal depending on whether I'm cruising to a car meet or just puttering around town.

normal...cuz then the car senses when it needs to be in power, and when it can be in comfort...depending on how hard you hit the gas. No need to use the switch, when it'll do it for you.

i know that power is good for your tranny. it doesnt have to shift as much. i think that in the long run, id rather save the tranny from wearing rather than gas from burning a little faster. so every other day i use power with over drive off cause it keeps only 3 gears open and 2 of them get used most of the time.

on other hand, i read on multiple websites that power mode should save you gas. how can it save you gas if your rpm goes higher and stays there for longer than comfort?

i think if you put the switch on comfort, the tranny shifts too soon causing the engine to endure more stress, but i could be wrong

no, youre right either way. the drive is in the higher gear, its okay for the engine cause the rpm maintains low, but its the tranny thats getting all the booboos on the stop/drive traffic when you are in comfort mode.

i thought otherwise. especially when my engine sounded real bad at high rpm. still sounds bad. i dont know what it is.

I never knew what that switch did, and I never wanted to mess around with it. But I usually leave it on normal.

The power mode is for highway driving and long up hill stretches. Comfort mode is good the stop and go driving.

The power mode is for the tranny to shift later on, resulting in you staying in the lower gears longer. This, along with turning OD off, should result in the best MPG in city driving since you're only going between 3 gears & lower gears have more torque.

Comfort, on the other hand, is for a sooner shift & is easier on the tranny because you'll be in the higher gears sooner than later.

There really isn't a big change in MPG using power over comfort nor is there any significant power gain in either mode. It's really up to what you're feeling like at the moment. In my case, I just leave it in the middle & let it kick into power when I mash the gas .

has anyone figured out that if you turn o/d off, the car is more responsive when you hit the gas hard? There's no hesitation to downshift....well very little. Dunno why that is, but it's worked for me.
