I have the catalytic converter off -is it bad?

My car has ben running sub-par, and it has been suggested that the catalytic converter could be bad.. I took it off just now to inspect it, and looking through it, I can see a wee bit of light on the end. Is there any sure fire way of finding whether it is bad or not?

basically, if you can see through it, then it's still good. it's not plugging the exhaust stream enough to block out all the light, so it's still passing exhaust through.. it may not be running at 100%, but if it was dead you would find melted parts of it in there or other things plugging the exhaust stream... you don't have any of that so you should be okay.

There's a little shield on top of it that was rattling around and is kinda corroded, it rattles when I hit the gas sometimes, so I just took it off before putting the catalytic converter back on. When I had my cat off.. it sounded real nice , but the intermittent.. "tut-tut" was still there, so I'm guessing the cats not my main problem :/

Do you think trying to find a hi-flow catalytic converter would be a good idea right about now (and would improve performance to justify buying it)?

Thanks again for the quick reply -

I dont think a high flow cat is really going to net you any gains

I think VG's just generally have that little spudder in them, my friends does the exact same thing,

Possibly.... it might have a sputter to it without the cat, no matter, but the main problem I'm trying to get to is a loss of power. I mean Biiiiig loss. LIke, even gunning it, my tires barely sqeal. When I first got the car, before the injectors went, any time I gave it more than 1/2 gas, I'd peel out. ALso, the pickup was much, much better. Now it kinda just "gurgles" when given gas, and doesn't really pick up fast at all..

It had been working great for almost 6months, when the injectors went. I got one of them replaced from one mechanic, and later, payed my friend to do the other 5 injectors. After that, ocasionally it ran crappy, until present day- where it pretty much never runs how it used to anymore :/ I've been using synthetic oil for awhile now, but it didn't help :/

Is it possible, that when he changed an injector, there could be a little air leak somewhere????
