I have a friend who just wrecked his 300zx tt. I wanted to know if there is a way I can use his front brake calipers without having to get 17's and without having to getting a bigger rotor that would only fit in 17's. Currently I have 240sx wheels that are 16x6.5. Basicly I wanted to know if it was possible to use the brakes without having to change my wheels. Thanks!

 

Also I am not sure if it is a 1991-1992.5 or if its a 1992.5-1996. I am guessing it is the first one so that would mean the calipers are aluminum. I read on some 240sx forums that it would fit without having to change wheels but I have never seen a picture or anything. Then that also makes me wonder if I need to change the master cylinder as well because it seems that it is nessisary when one is doing a swap with a 240sx. Any info would be really helpfull

 

If you use 300ZX calipers and 300ZX rotors and shave the rotors down so they fit under the calipers (which are connected straight to the maxima caliper brackets), then 16's might fit.

 

Thanks Mizeree_X for replying. I see, so the calipers it self bolt right on, It is just the rotors that need to be shaved. Does anybody know if I am going to have any issues with the brake lines? If I have to get different lines I will obviously just go with SS.

Hmm, you mean for the issue of wether or not the caliper will touch the spokes of the wheel right? Does anybody know how much and where would I normally go to get rotors shaved down? Also should I just shave down to what the stock rotor size is or can I push it and make it a little bigger?

if you want to put the 300ZX rotors on, you'll need brackets to relocate the calipers out from the original mounting point.
but to clear the spokes all you'll need is spacers at worst

 

Are you sure about that? I don't think you do, you just need to shave down the rotors.

 

 

Well now that Jeff agree's then I will definitely go ahead with it. I do not care about keeping the Z rotors their original size. By the way does anybody know how big the stock rotor is? I am just trying to figure out how much I am going to acutally have to shave off of the Z rotors. Also on Matt's site he said in order for wheels to clear his big brake kit it has to be at least 2 1/5 inches from the surface of the rotor. My wheels clear that just fine with at least 3 or 4 milimeters to go. What I still do not understand is 5 1/4 from the center of the wheel to the spoke, my wheels pass that test too. So I am guessing the major concern now is if the caliper will clear the spokes of the wheels.

My brake kit is COMPLETELY different than the standard Z conversion. totally different thing as far as diameter goes. spoke clearance remains the same.

the easiest way to find out if the brakes will fit... take your car to where your friend's dead Z is.. jack up both cars and stick one of your wheels on his car. if it fits, then you're great...

when you pull the Z brakes off the car to mount onto yours, you will need to take the Z rotors to a machine shop (not a brake shop. they won't do it), and have them take 3mm off the rotor (I forget whether that's radius or diameter). then the kit will bolt right onto your spindle without issues.
you will still need custom brake lines as well. get in touch with Derrick on that (see the GD forum), as he's selling those lines.

 

if you do it and buy spacers. do yourself a favour and spend the extra dough on some h&r spacers. they're well made and MOST importantly, they're hubcentric.
