Advanced timing question....

Hello everybody,
I advanced my timing on my 89 SE. After 200 miles or so i noticed that car when cruising has something like a very little miss and also very short. I don't really know if it is a real miss or not, it just feels like it. Also, it happens only while cruising and not all the time.If I give it some gas it pulls without a problem and no "misses". Other then that the car runs perfect. Did anybody else experienced the same thing when they advanced their timing?

Another thing-I have champion spark plugs in the car. Do you think this might me the problem? Thank you all in advance...

hmm, not really sure...maybe if you set it back 1 more degree, see if it still slightly misses. 1 degree wont make too big a difference, but if its a litlle miss maybe it will

Mine never missed even when I pulled the crankshaft sensor all the way clockwise, but I heard pinging when the engine was faced with a heavy load (uphill ect..). I pulled back my timing and it stopped. I do have new spark plugs though.

what is actually pinging? There is absolutelly no problem if i am on the gas pedal no matter the rpms and everything seems normal to me. I'll retard the timing tonite and see how it goes.

P.S.
timing is very tricky guys. You move the cap a millimeter and it goes 5 degrees. How the hell do you correct it only a couple of degrees. I tried to be as gentle as possible and still can do corrections in increments of 4-5 degrees.Anyways, I'll try again tonite and hopefully it will "fix" it.Thanks again for your replies!!!

Its a metallic 'tingy' noise from the engine bay. Its more noticable if your driving next to another vehicle so the noise can resonate back to you.

A general term for pinging is a cylinder missfire or engine knock.
