are these two compaines about equal or is one better than another? also, which size do I need, b&m has multiple:

16,000 GVW (11 inch x 5 3/4 inch x 3/4 inch)
24,000 GVW (11 inch x 6 inch x 1 1/2 inch)
28,000 GVW (11 inch x 8 inch x 1 1/2 inch)
19,000 GVW (11 inch x 7 1/2 inch x 3/4 inch)

I'd go with one of the two that are only 3/4" thick, 1 1/2" would be hard to mount anywhere. Other than that I'd get the larger one (11" X 7 1/2")

Technically........

I am curious whether you are talking about transmission coolers or shift kits.

These are oil coolers. The B&M's are a more sophisticated, efficent design than the Hadyens. I bought the smallest one. It's still sitting on the bench waiting to get a free day to put it in. If I lived in a warmer climate (than NYC) I would get the 11" x 7".

I know the 19,000 GVW B&M cooler installs OK. I just put one on my 93' GXE. It is a pain in the butt to get in the right place....I actually had to rotate my horn about 45 degrees to let the tranny cooler fit. The only place it would install was in front of the condensor on the driver's side....I would assume it would be the same for yours. It also helps to have a helping hand, as I don't think I could have done it myself. I followed the directions given on the following website:

http://grprete.jnet.net/Greg's%20Gar...n%20cooler.htm

Just to warn you, if you use the B&M ties that are provided, it's a real pain to get the plastic fasteners on the back. You have to put the ties through the condensor and then put the fasteners on behind the condensor, but in front of the radiator. Plan on tearing up your knuckles, but be easy on the radiator fins. Also, if you use the B&M you'll need about 4 ft. of *Transmission Fluid Line*. The only place I found to run the line back to the tranny was through a small hole beside the radiator (driver's side). It is just barely big enough for both lines. Last thing, be sure there's no kinks in the line as they can easily occur when you're running the hoses. Good luck!

i just checked the box to make sure i had installed the 19,000 GVW but i was wrong......i used the 16,000 and it was a TIGHT fit.

You may also want to check out the following post for a debate about which is the best:

I know about B&M from the domestic side of the fence and they make some pretty good tranny products. I am considering putting a tranny cooler on my Max so I can preserve the tranny. Also, I am thinking about having the VBC recalibration done by Don.

hey guys,
i'm curious, do they make a tranny cooler for a manual? and if so, would there be any point to putting one in? i'm assuming you're talking about autos. thanks guys. I'm pretty uninformed on this subject.

You don't need a cooler. It's the torque converter that heats up the fluid, and you don't have one. A manual transmission doesn't have a bunch of heat sensitive parts. A manual trans also has a lubricant that only has to do one thing well.

sweet, i wasn't sure. I had heard that some race cars have them, and i didn't even know if it was worth it. I know my buddie's race CRX has something like that. but he also has it converted to a 6 spd manual. it's like a dirtbike shifter. anyway, thanks for the info.

I don't recommend going with the 19,000 GVWR unit.. I bought one, and the tranny never warmed up in the winter. it always shifted like it was too cold, and cause the 2nd gear clutch bands to wear out quickly. it only shifted correctly when it was 70+ outside. That's even when I stuck a piece of cardboard over it in the winter to help keep it warm.
