well, a friend of mine bought a g-tech, and came by to try it out on my max ( 93' se, intake, stock exaust 5-spd).. so we off, to find a road somewhere to punch it and see what my numbers were.. i will do the other tests soon, but for now, i was just interested in seeing how much HP it said i had.

We ran it 3 times, to get a good general idea,

run 1. 213 hp
run 2. 205 hp
run 3. 208 hp

needless to say i was very happy.. just thought i would post..

Is that from the engine or at the front wheels?

That seems pretty optimistic, nonetheless.

g-tech

a gtech measures the g-force made, and gives a readout of horsepower to the wheels

F*** G-tech Pro...

It claims I run 14.83(best time) in the 1/4 mile. Uh... I don't think so.. I weight the car at 3400lbs and my mods were JWT ECU, JWT Stage-II cams, UR UDP, WSP Y-pipe, PR CAI, ACT Stage-II clutch.

What were your real times with those mods? Jonnymax (94 SE 5sp) has all the mods you have except the cams and plus a high flow cat and catback, and I swear that his car is gonna do 14.0 - 14.2 two weeks from now when we get together. (this car is Q-U-I-C-K!!!!!) Don't ask him, he will say that he will be happy to break into the 14's, but I think his car is a lot quicker than that...

Re: Re: F*** G-tech Pro...

I never got a chance to run my car at the track. I went to Etown last year and they wouldn't let me run cuz I didn't have a helmet. Then I went to Maple Grove during opening season and after 4 hours of waiting they closed for the night and I didn't get 1 run!!! Then I went the next week and it was rained out =( SkyMax is not having much luck with the track.

I doubt thats at the wheels....

where did all that extra HP come from?? I know Ve's are quick, but not 200+ hp quick with basic stock equipment!

Thats why I don't really buy into the g-tech..... All I have at the moment is an intake too, and I would be happy if I am getting 195 at the crank, maybe 160-165 at the wheels?? As soon as I get my y, THEN I may be able to have 210 HP at the crank.

You entered the weight wrong. The G-tech caculates the g-force created during acceleration and then takes the weight that you entered and determines HP based on that. If you want big #'s all you have to do is enter in that you car weighs 8000lbs. and it will report that you've got Viper type power under the hood. Best way to get an accurate HP measurement is to go to a dyno. $50 later you'll know for sure. My friends and I actually weighted on of our cars and entered that weight in. Even with an accurate weight the G-tech was still +/- 5 -10 hp compared to what actual dyno runs showed.

Yes, but....

you realize that those HP's that you got are rather high for your particular car with the mods you have! there is no way an intake will give you 10-20 hp at the wheels. Like was said before you're probably at 190-195 at the crank and 170-180+/- at the wheels, I think that G-tech is a little off.

The weight posted on the door jamb isnt what the car actually weighs. GVWR is gross vehicle weight rating. That's the max that the car can weigh (car and passengers and cargo included) without breaking anything. The only way to tell what you actually weigh is by gettin on the scales...

Re: Re: weight

You're saying the GVWR is 3400lbs? No, the GVW on my '94 GXE is 4189. I think you need to subtract 900lbs (vehicle carrying capacity written in the center console) from the GVWR. You'll get 3289 for the car's weight.

Right
GVWR = weight rating
GVW = actual weight

You got the formula right too...

Ok, well then I'm sure the weight is 100% accurate then, since that IS what it says on the doorjam.... yeah... either way I hate to break the news, but the car has no where near that kind of power at the wheels. You would be LUCKY to have 170hp @ the wheels.
