How about we break it down into subdivisions...

This all relates to 3rd Gens...

Fastest NOS VE
Fastest NOS VG
Fastest Turbo VE (we all know the answer to this)
Fastest Turbo VG
Fastest NA VE
Fastest NA VG

And if you want.. we can break it down even more.. like Fastest NOS VE auto & Fastest NOS VE 5-spd. Hehe.. the battle of Auto vs 5-spd.

I know I'm not the fastest or anywhere close but I ran a 16.6/81mph I still have to run with the new suspension and pop charger.

My Times as of this afternoon

Since no one is posting times, I'll go ahead and put mine on...thus making mine the fastest 3rd Gen...at least until someone else posts.

My Max is a 94 GXE, Automatic, 3.0L V6, all stock.

I have a perfect place for running 1/4 miles, it's a half mile stretch 1 mile from my house, clear view down both roads, so you can see anybody who is approaching. So I ran two times.

Best Time: 16.66 Seconds at 92 MPH (full gas tank, OD ON, in Power setting)

Second Time: 17.26 Seconds at 88 MPH (full gas tank, OD OFF, in Power Setting)

I think I can do a little better, as I hesitated at the start of my best time...now come on...someone can beat that, right?

hmmm...I dunno about those gteched times swipe... your mph seems a bit high considering its an auto and you ran a 16.6.

As for me I have a 92 SE 5sp. NA totally stock and ran at Seattle Int'l Raceway and I got 15.5 @ 91 with a 2.5 60'.... I plan to improve those times to a 14.9 in about 2 weeks with 5 degree timing, intake, y and hopefully a much better launch. If I get it two weeks from now I will not do anything more performance wise to the engine until I deal with the handling.

the 16.6 is very inaccurate..the trap speed is too high...plus my VG with CAI ran a 16.9 fastest with a trap speed of 82...10 mph difference is huge in the 1/4...another VG with pop intake and exhaust has run 16.5 with a crazy system in the trunk...

for a stock VG auto like yours the 17.2 is what the magazines were getting back then so i'd say you are around 17.0 to 17.2

Accuracy?

Listen, it's hard to be accurate with times when holding a stopwatch, watching the road, and watching my speed. I'm gonna grab a couple of friends and do a better job tomorrow, they all wanna see how they stack up. Someone to hold the stopwatch at the 1/4 mile mark, someone to watch my speed...maybe I can call the Sheriff's Dept to come and get me on a speed gun. I wanna do a 0-60 run as well. Does surface matter? I was running on a really odd surface, and it was freezing cold today as well, about 35-40 degrees when I ran. There's a nice bit of pavement nearer my house, but it's got blind spots...and it's sorta residential...is it 50 points to hit a kid, or 25?

Afterthought

I didn't even think, but I have some extra weight in the car...I could take out my emergency kit (10 lbs.), my spare tire (my luck, I'll get a flat...). Do you guys take all that stuff out when you run?

I think I should take some pictures tomorrow as well...

One last thing, I bought this Max used, and it already had some stuff done to it...tint...stereo (which I replaced)...this may sound silly, but it might be possible that there are mods already on it...who knows...

Look it's nice and well that you want to see how fast you can go but I think you should just go to a track cuz let's be for real here......calling the sheriff's office to use a speed gun to clock your time in a residential area, does that sound that brilliant to you???? 50 or 25 pts to hit a kid?????? c'mon man just brake down and go to a 1/4 mi track and get your real time and quit with all this nonsense.

Re: Re: Accuracy?

Okay, sorry for making a joke, I guess my sense of humor is not easy to understand or something...the place I go is out in the middle of nowhere, with a speed limit of 55, so it's not as bad as you think. I don't think there is a 1/4 mile track where I live, at least not that I know of.

I betcha in two weeks jonnymax will post a comparable timeslip...we are going to the track, and at the moment he has CAI, JWT ECU, UDP, Y, RT Cat, catback, ASP clutch. I am banking that he will be low 14's.

I am sure stock to stock you aren't gonna get a faster VG than VE. And I am sure that with equal bolt on mods, the VE will still be faster, but it may be easier to adapt the VG-T to the VG engine maximas...

What kind of times are the turbo maxs running? How much faster are they to the NA maxs?

I know Bryan and I rode in his old Max. He had the typical mods like an intake, catback, no cat, advanced timing, port work in the intake manifolds, but he also had some other mods that I can't say. Some were internal on the motor and others took a bit of weight off the car. That's all I'll say.

Friend Steve here in JC Tennessee has an '87 VG 5 sp Turbo/ with NOS. He runs upper 12's in the quarter at Bristol. He has a small, but nice list of mods, including cams. He knows his stuff. His goal is low 12's this season.

I know all about Bryan's "secret sauce". It's a pretty simple setup. Anyone who want's their VE to run 14's can do it without spending thousands of dollars.

OK...... THATS IT!

People are so damn secretive on this board!!!!
any reason why???
doesnt that defeat the purpose of a bbs to spread knowledge and help people out?
I dont get it!!!!

sorry... just needed to rant, it gets very aggrivating at times.

anyways, I hope to run a mid to high 14's at the track, some people think I can pull off a low 14's run, but this will only be my second time at the drag strip ever. I am thinking my inexperience will hold me back. Of course I also hope I can prove myself wrong. Ill post my times of course after the event. What I really look forward too is my new suspension and getting on an AutoX course. no that will be fun!

I've learned through failure at the strip and from talking to other guys. Either get drag radials or simply lower pressure in your tires to get better traction. You can also write "deep" above your number and then set up deep in the staging (first light off/ second on). Then just get your r/t down (response time) so that you can get out quicker. These few things make a lot of difference. Me? I kept full pressure in tires and sat there on green spinning my tires! STUPID!

Hey Jonny,
If you can't get the times I think you can, let me drive your car (please??!!?)... Your car is in a different league than mine, and I am hoping for a 14.9 when I go with what I have... Remember car&driver got a 15.3 stock from our cars, so you need to be more positive(cocky)...

My first time at the track was a disaster....

I was crazy nervous....and my 1+ second RT was proof enough of that. I think the slipping tranny was definently a factor as well and it also didn't help that I botched the torque brake which I think led around to tranny rebuild #3(but thats another story)....SO this Friday, April 20th, DA-MAX gets revenge on Capital Raceway! All you who turned your noses up at my 17.2 last summer can kiss my ***, cause I'm aiming for 16's and a hopefully a respectable RT in the .5-.6 range where it should be.(I been practicing on my import racing PC game and have an RT ranging from .4-.5...woohooo) Payback is a biach!!
