my VE is so slow

i have an exhaust leak. but how much power is that going to take away from my car. when i fixed my exhaust manifold studs, i broke a stud on each manifold where it connects to the y-pipe. the y-pipe is no only help by 2 bolts on each inlet and needs new gaskets. could this be the only cause for my max to be so slow. its a 5 speed and i cant even peel out. torque feels way down. i just wanted to konw if anyone has had an exhuast leak and has experienced a big loss of power. i konw people were having problems with their knock sensor in the VE also. does anyone have the link where it talked about the knock sensor. thanks

Fix leaks. An exhaust leak can greatly affect the engine's torque. You should get ti done anyway. Should not be difficult for a shop to take off the y, drill out the broken stud, put new ones in and put new Y gaskets in.

A problem with your exhaust can kill your performance. An exhaust leak or clog can severly kill your gas mileage also.

Nah, I just wanted to enforce what you said. Plus throw in the gas mileage thing, that usually hits home with most people.

how can I fix an exhaust leak without buying a new y-pipe? cause I'm having the same problem right now, an exhaust leak is getting worse and my gas mileage and power are going to **** the worse it gets

If you have an exhaust leak, you are going to have to get it fixed one way or another. The thing about exhaust is if you have a leak, then you probably have a fair amount of rust under there and it is just going to get worse. It really depends on where the leak is and how much rust you have.

If it's in your flex section, than you may as well buy a WSP y-pipe. It's just going to cost a little more than the parts and labor for having a new flex piece welded in, and you can install a y-pipe yourself pretty easy, if the bolts aren't totally rusted to the flanges.

If the leak is past the y-pipe, the cheapest way to go is probably going to be to take it to a shop and have them replace everything from the cat-back with crush bent 2.5 inch pipe. It is also likely that your muffler is rusted and you will need a new one of those.

took it to my dad's shop and he said it needed a new flex, he keeps them in stock so he's gonna fix it later this week. He won't let me weld it, but I'm getting it fixed for free, so I have no complaints.

well i fixed the leaks but the car still doesnt feel the way a VE 5 speed should. my old one was much quicker than this one. it almost feels like that the exhaust is backed up. does anyone here in chicago have one of those checkers that you plug into near the fuse box to check for codes. i would really like to see how my car is running. thanks

your exhaust may be backed up, or more specifically the catalytic converter.

and let me guess, you are gonna sell me one i guess im gonna have to go with the warpspeed y-pipe with a high flow cat. i would like to get a custom cat back pipe. anyone know a shop that will to good custom work for a 2 1/2 cat back pipe. also what kind of muffler are you guys running with your exhaust system. i dont want anything too loud. i heard of people running 2k mufflers. how is this working out and where do i get one at a reasonable price? used im assuming. thanks. joshua

internetautomart, do you sell any mufflers?

I sell all sorts of mufflers.
I'm running a 2.5" catback with no muffler, I don't recommend it.
I'm gonna return the exhaust to stock, as soon as I can afford a new cat. Mine has a warped flange from the aforementioned cat back

I have the same problem even after I got the full 2 1/2" warpspeed exhaust system, a CAI, a Fidanza flywheel, a UDP, and a blehmco ground wire kit. I don't think my problem is the vtc's because the sound still seems to change at 3500 rpm and I don't think it is my knock sensor because I have a ton of low-end power. My car seems to be very moody. Even when the wheather is cold, it barely pulls past 3500 rpm. Rarely it has alot of top-end power like it used to have. I don't know what could be wrong.

quite the opposite, when the knock sensor is bad, you lose the low end power. You only have top end power.

so would it be safe to say the top end loss in power and gas mileage would be caused by a backed up cat? i think i will order the warpspeed system. what kind of muffler do you got automart? i want a quiet one that is not flashy. thanks

has anyone thought about changing the timing belt. When the timing belt gets old it streaches out. I think the reason for the high end lose is this, the faster the motor revs more stress on the belt there fore makinging it slip and you lose the high end power. The maxima timing belts should be changed every 60K miles i was told from a 2 nissan dealers and a service station. I know thats sounds crazy because some people say 100k but hey dont shoot the messanger. http://members.cardomain.com/nymax91
