Questions about lowering a maxima, Where to buy what to buy? RIsk? HELP!

Hey i have a 92 maxima GXE
stock suspension
stock rims.
I want to drop it about 3 inches.

Whats the best way to do this, and the cheapest way.
Also what do I need to look for and where? i want to get it done this weekend or next week at the latest.

THanks in advance people.

First you cant drop it past 2 inches, unless you do some crazy suspension work. Second i spent around 1k on my eibachs and tokicos, BUT i have a life time warranty on them from kauffman tire. With all the other stuff you said is wrong w/ your car i would advise getting that fixed b4 lowering it.

lowest drop for our cars i think i somewhere around 1.8 inches which is the sprint springs which run around 150ish and then you will need struts which you can either go koni $500 tokico $300 shipped (ebay) or kyb $250 shipped try internetautomart.com or look around on google and ebay
For my car i have tokico struts intrax springs and ingalls camber kits many poeple dont think you need a camber kit but i just wanted to be extra careful with tire wear issues

I'm not sure you'll be able to go that low. I think Sprint springs drop about 2", Intrax 1.75", Suspension Techniques 1.5", Eibach 1.2". You can get these most anywhere, check the FAQ for links! Average about $200 for springs. Struts recommended are KYB GR2, Tokico Blues, and Koni (low to high in price), although the KYB's might not last with lower drops. I and many people have Eibach/KYB, also common is Eibach/Tokico. Koni's are very expensive and more trouble to install but last forever. KYBs are about like stock struts. You might need strut mounts and dust boots depending on the condition of your current ones. I paid about $400 total incl shipping for used Eibachs, new KYBs, and new dust boots. I like the ride a lot.

There are many write-ups and most people here have done it, so just ask if you run into problems.

The only way you can drop it more than two inches is to get airbags or hydros. If you want either one of these it will require ALOT of modifying and money. I think that a slammed 3rd gen look so sick though.

Also check out shavedmax. He has hydros and the lowest 3rd gen that I know of. He could probably give you some good info on it.

Slammed 3rd gen....

Guys with the KYB/Eibach combo, how long have you had that. Have you had any problems with long term/abusive use. Thinking about the Koni/eibach combo but seeing how old our cars are, I personally don't think it would be worth it to drop that kind of dough on a 10+ yr. old car. Not planning on auto-x, just "spirited" cornering once in awhile in the city.

I don't think my suspension has been replaced in awhile but still ride fine for now.

It's been six months since I upgraded to the tokico/eibach combo and along with that I did, control arm bushings, ball joints, strut bearings and outer tie-rods. I saved a bunch getting everything and having them installed at the same time. The car handles great and I think it was worth the money.

I think you should wait until you need something on your suspension replaced and then consider upgrading. .02$

Or you could install it yourself.

I've got Eibachs and GR2s. Handles MUCH better than before. I still need to get a rear sway bar (broke mine), replace a balljoint, and probably some brushings. Looks much better without that wheelgap. For a daily driver car I wouldnt want to lower more than 1.5 inches or so. I've hit the bumpstops a few times when I get a little careless on rough roads.

Installing springs/struts is pretty straightforward. Budget a weekend and rent a strut spring compressor from Idiotzone. The spring compressor, a few sockets, a torque wrench, a breaker bar (I just use a 3/4" Craftsman ratchet with a 3' pipe), and maybe some WD40 is all you need. Really helps to have a buddy around to help out with putting the struts assembly back in.
