ECU Diagnostics
ECU Diagnostics
Hey,
I know about what the codes mean and how to read them, only I don't know how to reach the screw you're suppose to turn. I have a Haynes manual but it only covers models 85 through 88, not 91 as mine is. I've been looking at pictures on how it looks, if you remove the panel next to the gas pedal you can see the screw underneath a sticker. Only, mine doesn't look like that, it has the big connector on this side that covers all the ECU side. There's no screw there.
Can I just remove the ECU from it's seat or is that a big no-no? Logic tells me the ECU has to be connected while diag, so is there another way to go around this or what?
I've also got another box above the ECU that I don't know what it is, only that the lower one's the ECU. It's difficult to know since the models have so many different names depending on country...

you needs to be on the pass side yo. and the box up top is the tranny comp....mine (ecu screw)seems like it hasnt been touched ,no hole in the sticker and it doesnt look like it has been removed so ill leave it alone till i have a problem ...you got a problem wit that? ha ha hairy
be very careful to return the screw to original position and make sure you understand the procedure and have fun

Alright hehe thanks
Yeah I got lots of problems... trying to sort them out one by one... thought I'd see what the ECU has to say about it.
I'll mark the screw on it's position against the wall, that should be careful enough
Oh and btw, is there any use in resetting the ECU? My car's been driven by an old man for years and years and I think that's why the car drinks as much as it does, since I tend to have a heavy foot
Maybe it'll learn to give me the power at high rpm's instead, maybe there's a little hp to win there?

Got it...
OK I managed to get the codes now. Got 2 of them:
23: Idle switch (throttle valve switch) signal circuit open
45: Injector fuel leak (suspected that one... have had problems with nr 6, it wont fire unless I use fuel additives...)
Still need a little help clearing 23 out. My technical english isn't that good...
Whats the throttle valve switch? Sounds like it's sort of connected to the fuel injector problem, is that so?

ithink its t.p.s.(throttle position sensor)its at the throttle body make sure the things plugged in and check the wires,,as for the fuel inj. i dont see how a computer can tell if gas is leakin? you can hear em clicking if you hold up a screwdriver or similar to your ear and other end on fuel inj. body whilst running ..also check the plug ins for those..switchs on\off mode can check the t.p.s. to some extent ..and ive read that going to mode 4 after 3 automatically resets the ecu.,and the first 50 or so miles the comp will "learn"good luck
