4500 to 5000 rpm hesitation?

I went out in the country for a drive tonight and decided to test out my 3rd gear. While floored I noticed that on each of my runs there was a slight hesitation from about 4500 to 5000 rpm in 3rd gear. Have any of you noticed this in your max? What could be the cause?

BTW I hit 98 shifting right before I hit the rev limiter. Impressed the heck out of me.

What size tires are you running? IIRC I can hit 104-105mph (indicated) when I ring out 3rd@6,700rpms. I have not noticed hesitation between 4,500-5,000rpms. It could be a stuck powervalve

215/55/16's. I have not messed with my timing yet, though I might advance it soon...I guess I'll see if that helps out any.

sounds like vtc problems. VTC solenoid kicks off at 4600. power valve kicks off at 3500. unplug solenoids and see if it hesitates. you will lose some low end since thats what the vtc improves. but if there is no more hesitation, it could be vtc failing. maybe sticking solenoids.

It could very well be my VTC's. They clack, but I didn't think they hurt performance when going bad....?
