Painted Mirrors...

Painted Mirrors...
Confining the discussion to 3G Maxes, were painted mirrors only available on GXEs, were they a factory or dealer option, ...?
I see random 3Gs with painted mirrors, but my 93 SE has the unpainted black ones. I'm not a fan of unpainted mirrors myself, and would be interested in a pair of white ones...

painted
One of mine broke and they are matched to my car, could not find one in my color so I bought a black one and had the color matched and painted it myself, a little more hassle but only cost about 30.00 for the paint and kit (bottle with sprayer) mirror was 70.00(which of course you already have)at a junkyard, they wanted 220.00 for a factory replacement.
Just an idea

hmm i read somewhere the opposite, that the 92-94 se was the only one with matched body color mirrors. Im sure your right though. I thought maybe the people before me just switched the mirrors because the car had the driver door replaced.....I been thinking about painting my mirrors white to match my white car, but probably not since the trim around everything else is black.

White is one of the hardest colors to match.
It will be very difficult to make it a perfect match but you should be able to get it close enough if you have a shop that uses the color matching cameras.

well your name is black92seauto...is your car black or white? I didnt say a thing about black but black is not as hard to match...besides that I highly doubt it matches perfectly but black can be hard to notice a difference in color especially on a small object such as a grille that is pretty much seperate from the other panels. Maybe it does to you but I know a trained eye would see the difference, or even a not so trained eye that actually looked close enough to compare it.
When I first got my good paint gun I decided to paint the hood of my GXE (black car). I painted it by just using the code and not the color match system (since I wanted to use cheaper paint). Everyone that looked at it thought it matched perfectly with the rest of the car but I could tell it was obviously off.

My father-in-law is like that, too. He owns a body shop (has for over 20 years). Everyone, including me, thinks my paint looks really nice. The first time he saw it, he said, "That thing was in a wreck and they didn't do that great a job of blending the paint."
He proceeded to show me a very small section above the rear pillar where the clearcoat overlapped the old clearcoat.
Another thing to remember with the SE mirrors is that they have heating elements inside and I don't think the GXEs have those.
If you bump around on ebay for a bit, you will usually find mirrors for $20-30. I would say just get SE mirrors and then try to find the mirror switch and go with heated mirrors.

dunno , i never heard back from them.
don't think they even came out and looked.
no biggie, It'll either sell or sit or wait for me to get ambitious enough to fix it, or my uncle to fix it :x

Well I'm not going to run out right now and grab some Krylon. It's just a thought in passing at the moment. I do however have the heated mirrors, as mentioned.
Maybe I'll take the mirrors off and just dunk them in some nice, thick white housepaint....

oops I totally missed the S in there. My apologies. And as for you posting pics...sorry I see a lot of maximas on here and I usually cant remember whats whos unless its something unique like Juans or a total ricer like some I have seen.
BUT even though you said it in this post that it isnt perfect you said it in the post I replied to. You said it matches perfectly.
I am just saying that white is one of the hardest colors to match. If you got a can of paint that matched closely then thats cool but its not the norm.

I love my mirrors, mulit-color, blue,purple,red... Does give that ugly brown color at a bad angle. But that's rare. Did my wipers in the same color. In fact, if you look close enough at the pics on my car domain site you'll see it.
