Tps=fidc?

Is the tps (throttle position sensor) the same thing as the fidc (fast idle control device)?

And if not where is the tps? anyone got a pic?

I don't know exactly where you could find the fdic, but the throttle position sensor is a little black box about 1.5"x2.5" and about .5" thick. It's on the side of the throttle body and has a wiring harness attached to one end of it. You shouldn't need a picture to find it. There are only 2 screws holding it on, and they snap very easily, so don't overtighten them like I did if you need to adjust or replace it.

Thanks.
What should the resistance be on a normal functioning tps?
Mine was reading less then 1 ohm, is this bad?

I just left it in there. You could drill into it, tap in a bit, and get it out that way, but I'm lazy. I don't know about the resistance, but I'll check my Haynes manual to see if it's in there anywhere. If you do have a bad one, though, they are easy to find. I think that many Nissan engines use the same one. I could be wrong, but I know that there shouldn't be a difference in VE, VG, or even KA engines.

0.1 - 1k Ohms is the range (from what i remember off the top of my head), test it closed and then test it with your throttle all the way open to get the range, make sure the engine is off, and that you disconnected both plugs. Mine was some absurd value like 999k so I replaced it.

If you need one let me know, they go for $50 new, i can sell cheaper for a good used one.

TPS Throttle pos sensor VG30E:

One connector is for the potentiometer. Open, it should be 1kOhm-9kOhm, linear response is important. (VG30DE -->to 5k)

Second connector is zero pos switch. Open, as throttle is closed one connector is closed, sw is opened as throttle opens just a little, plus second sw connects for 2/3 throttle postion.

Seal it before installation. Add one 1" o-ring against throttle assy to seal the axle.

"Can be repaired", but is not meant to be opened, new is about 90$

it's got practically the rotten chilton manual, online...
