ebay adapter&filters

Have been looking on ebay and have seen the filter adapters that replace the stock box. Are any of these worth a darn. They seem cheap and I might take a chance. Anybody use one of these or know anybody that has. Thanks

careful with those adapters. for the most part they don't fit our MAF, even though it says it for our cars. i bought one off of ebay awhile back, and the adapter wasn't for our engines...bolt pattern was off...too small...etc.

i bought one and it fit but the plastic plate was cheap and b/c of heating and cooling the plastic broke around the screws and i had to buy new bolts. so now the whole thing is held on by electrical tape!

You're a lot better off just making an adapter or having a shop do it. It's a simple part, and shouldn't cost any more than the eBay ones. Besides that, the filter that they send with it is probably junk. You could go with the ghetto-ricer method of using duct tape to attach the filter right to the MAF. I did this once, just as an...experiment, to see how much a new intake would affect the performance. It actually worked so well that I left it on for a few weeks. I'm not really recommending this, but it's an option.

I think Jeff92SE will make you an adapter. It is more expensive than one from ebay (I think he wants $35?) but I guarantee it won't be needing electrical tape or duct tape on any part of it, unless you take a plasma cutter to it.

I made the same mistake Fosgate Fan did and bought one from ebay that had the worst air filter I had ever seen (I just threw it out) and the adapter was way too small. I complained to the guy, but he said he would only reimburse me for the cost of the item, but not the shipping, which was the bulk of the cost. I just cut my losses and had one made.

this is the one you want

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...947309124&rd=1

this is the one you dont want

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...946865246&rd=1

the first one will bolt right up since the 300zx and 4th gen max use the exact same MAF housing as the 3rd gen

the second one will work fine but will require you to redrill the holes

i have the 2nd one on my car now and it works fine although if i could do it over again i would get the 1st one

I have one that looks very similar to the one in the 2nd link (I got mine off eBay as well, but not the same source though it wouldn't surprise me if it was the same).

Anyways, the 2nd one will fit, but you will only be able to secure it down using the diagonal holes (so using only 2 of the 4 holes). I considered drilling new holes but I found there wasn't enough metal to do so. I've had mine installed this way for a few months and it hasn't given me any problems as of yet.
