Trunk Swap

I want to get rid of the trunk on my 89 GXE and replace it with a trunk from a 91 SE because the 91 trunk has a spoiler and less scratches :-P two questions

will the 91 se trunk fit without too much work and

how would i go about removing the trunk. any links or sites online that show me how to do this

also how hard would it be to wire the light on the spoiler and remove the light in the rear window

thanks in advance

1. yes it will work, I just suggest you swap over the torsion rods as well
2. no clue
3. you'd need a package tray from an SE and just run some wiring .

1. Like internetautomar said it will work but if you dont swap the torsion bars over the trunk will not open when you pop it.

2. Take the grey liner off of the bottom of the trunk. There are a bunch of clips to remove. I used angled needle nose pliers but you can use whatever as long as you are careful. After removing the liner you will see the 4 bolts on the arms.

2a. while the trunk is off go inside the car and take the shelf off. Then you will see there is a rod going into each side that holds the trunk arms on. Pull this rod and you can pull the arms and the torsion rods. Be careful here because the rods are under a lot of pressure. Be sure and look how they are on there because you will have to swap them over.

3. the wire may be there for you to just plug into but if its not then you can run an extension from your existing light on your shelf. You can either just unplug the 3rd brake light in the window (it will look funny if you dont) or you can swap the whole shelf out with the other car. The light comes off by itself no problem there but there will be a big hole in the shelf where the light brackets were so you will need the SE shelf to take care of that.

good luck its not too hard to do.

well i got off the phone with the junkyard around here, they want 200 bucks for a se trunk lid with a spoiler. thats a little more than i want to spend right now. need to get some other things first (tires, alternator belt, trip odomoter and fuel guage fixed) maybe in the summer. oh well. my car kinda looks cool with the luggage rack on it. its gangsta :-) just kidding
