will not start.. HELP!

Hi All-

Like so many of you I am also battling the snow and freezing temps. It hasnt been past 20 degrees for the past two weeks. My car will NOT start, It wont even try to turn over anymore. I do have a new battery in there, dry gas in the line and last year we replaced a fuel sensor. What could be the problem.... I did read the sticky on the smell of gas through the vents and I do smell that too, I guess ill replace the line but could that be it? This sucks! I cant go anywhere with out the fear of not being able to make it home! How about a blook heater? would that work? Anyone else having this problem?

HELP!

First u need a full warm battery. And maybe thats all...

Take the batt in, warm, recharge. -OR- Take some hot container beside batt to revive it (will retain 50% capacity). Let it warm the batt/engine bay for one hour. Tst...

Any heater (electric, no flame) under the engine for three hours (keep wind off) will hlp. Russian style is hot coal on a pan, very efficient.

It started today so I am letting it run for a long time and make sure all fluids are running through. My dad and myself think its somthing with the gas line- a leak, something stuck in there so thing like that. Since all my acc. work and its not making a sound when I try to start it, we think its the gas thingy. Anyone else having any of those problems?

I'm not following you ... first you said engine wouldn't even turn over (with a new battery). Now you are saying that fuel system is a problem ...

Anyway ... if you replaced a fuel filter (if that's what u meant by fuel sensor)recently, then it might be a "bad" one.
If you never replaced fuel filter before - that might be your problem as well (frozen inside or just "cocked"?).

Good luck!

"Russian" style works well on any diesel only - OPEN FIRE BABY!!! LOL

But if battery is your problem and you don't want to replace it - buy a battery warmer (it goes around the battery and "plugs" to 110V)

No to -only-. No racism on warmth: goes as well on gas as diesel. Huge trucks, they make fires under, but no open fire under cars: that seems to be fools to us that have all, but thats only practical at minus 40, IF no electricity around batteries or hundred miles... With hot coal u will have [fast] summer climate under da da hood, then its summer start u know. Even in states...

Next time, take u grill with ya, but 'that summer' is so hot that take care not to melt u engine plas tics.

...I have one pound gas stove in trunk for those emergencies.

maybe your fuel lines froze because you didnt have enough gas in the tank?

if you can start it again, take it to autozone or wherever and have them test the battery atleast, narrow down your problems would be the best bet.

if all else fails move to a warmer climate.

...no sin being born on any spot of the Globe. Bush had a good point in his last freedom speech there, freedom belongs to any human. But true individual freedom is received only from above.

Dieseloil will become grease if cold enough, no flow. Both fuelsystems can get water from filling stations, freeze. Then both need a lot of heat... And both combustion types benefit from warm engine up to a point = better start. I does not matter how u carry 'the heat', coal is one of the most used...

Methanol gasolin additive by every filling keeps frozen ice at bay... I dont use, just play my luck.

1. Don't even start with Bush pls ... not a very popular "figure" ... and one of the reasons why I moved from chicago several years ago.

2. Have no objections here

3. Yeah ... it's a good thing to do. BTW, most of canadian gas stations already add it in gas.

1. Freedom to individual was this (side)issue, persons (or the mud thrown at them) who FF it is not. Anyways, without US I would be whacking wood in Siberia as a shacled non citizen. Thanks to RR I am not...

2. Then lets carry the heat by whatever means...

3. Here u must buy and pay dearly for the additive bottles.

The engine is not cranking??? Try putting it in neutral and crank it, if not then try again in park. It may be your shift lever bushings. There is a nylon bushing at both ends of the shift cable, they tend to break and fall off the car. Then the inhibitor switch will not see that the car is in park and it won't start. Two new bushing ============= $5.
