What to do about a cup holder?

I really need one or 2, and up untill my friend told me how to drift I was going to put it over the ebrake. I talked to the same friends about a few ideas and we figured one that could fold on the center consol right next to the glovebox, and make it (or buy one) that could fold flat so its not that much of an eye sore and looks clean. Any way LMK what you guys have done...

go and buy a plastic cd holder or trash can with adjustable cup holders and just put it on the passenger side floor..works like a charm, and when you have a passenger, you can just throw it in the back. no need to alter your console or anything. drifting is a good way to put fast wear and tear on your car and a wreckless behavior. at 16 years old, i'd concentrate more on driving safely.

Some maximas came with a pullout cupholder set under the radio and above the ashtray. My car didnt come with them, but you can find them on Ebay and it wouldnt be that much work to put it in because its meant to fit and look normal, nothing like cutting up your dash.

I like the Saab/taurus cup holder. It is a lot better than the factory one. It still doesnt have a huge opening but its fine for 90% of the drinks. I do wish it fit a 20 oz but you can just leave the top on those and set them down.

I got flamed last time I posted, but since the thread is here, I am jumping on the wagon.

Here is my Saab cupholder

Took about 40 min with bit of dremmeling.

Only prob is that with the aftermarket removable radio face (which sticks out), the cup rubs against the face of the radio...

Here's a lifesaver - takes away one annoyance about my max (the other being the turning radius of an elephant). - At autozone they have cup holders ("Type-z" or some junk) but it works real well - clips into your vent and holds them very well,. Only problem is lack of airflow in that vent - so it works better to put in the passenger side vent O:-)

It works really well, and has alittle clip to adjust the size(2 sizes), and fits more cups - except very big. Only the minor annoyance of the lack of the use of the vent with a cup.

Awsm66 and Pyro- Would either interfear with a 5speed shifter?. Looks close and I might get upgrading to a 5speed soon.

Hectic- Bite me....Im not a run of the mill stupid 16yr old driver, and I only drift in open parking lots that are covered in snow so the car isn't stressed too much.

mtnbikeair- thanks I'll try that too.

doomtoo- Ive seen those and thats exactly what I dont want to do. What ever I do its going to be permanat and look like its part of the car. Those are an eyesore and wont be installed in my car...thanks anyway

Probably looks close because of the angle or something. It’s not close though. I have drinks in there all the time while driving and the shifter never hits or interferes with it.

Since I live in AL, there's no snow drifting for me. A couple years ago I made this cup holder that slides over the e-brake. One of these days I'll cover it with something (fabric/vinyl/etc.) It's worked out great for me, and there's some flat surface area too - I used to keep a portable cd player on it.

Yea I was thinking of doing something like that for any months w/o snow since I wont use the ebrake. Id probably make it out of balsa as its easy to work with and I can get it super cheap at work.

Here's one I made awhile ago out of sheet metal...it fits in the center console. It holds two regular value meal drinks and will close with normal cans. Don't mind the faded paint

Thanks Ghost thats exactly what I was looking for! A easy mod that doesn't take away from the overall functionality....I'll work on a balsa version tomorrow.

Now all you have to do is rig a peltier to cool (or heat if you want) that compartment and then you can boast about having an active 2-can refridgerator (or 2-cup coffee heater) in your car...

i'd like to think it's because we aren't mainstreamers like everyone else and unlike all those other people driving hondas and other cars that cost the you up the *** because people can't be different and want whatever the other guy has instead of getting a better and faster car for a lot cheaper like us. see, we think outside the box..creative minded people we are.

I know the reason I got a Maxima was to have a challenge for a build up. It's no fun when you can slap on a turbo, plug in the chip, and go. Or have a car that every little High School racer wannabe has.

One of the reasons we have to do this is because our car was designed in Japan and %100 made in Japan. Japanese people do not eat or drink in their car. Just like German people. But they sure do smoke! That is why the ash trays are plentiful. I on the other hand use them for sun flower seeds
