Finally foundout what is clicking under dash
Hi,
This is an update on the previous post.
I have a '92 Maxima GXE with ACC that was clicking behind the glovebox when the ignition key was set to "acc" or to "on" (regardless of the engine being on or the climate control being on).
Some folks said that it might be blower motor, but tonight I finally took apart the area and located the source of the sound.
It is a little black box next to the blower housing. The blower motor is removed in the picture (excuse me for labeling stupid things like the Fan speed amp and blower motor housing, but wanted to make sure everyone knew the orientation).
The little black cylinder seems to be the source of the "tap, tap, tap, tap..." sound. The cylinder seems like a motor, and it is connected behind to a metal rod. I am wondering if this is the "intake door motor"? I think the motor is okay, it seems that the white plastic that the rod is connected to is completely seized. Maybe the plastic gears in the motor are slipping because the door is stuck?
By the way, did I identify this correctly?
Can anyone tell me the function of this little black thing? For now, I have left the wiring harness unplugged. I am guessing that this has to do with the "recirculation button"? After thinking this, I realize that at least for the automatic climate control, I can press the "recirc" button and it will light up even though the climate control is "off" (or even if fan speed is zero (as in cold engine)).
Anyway, does anyone know how I can get to that thing? The big metal bar is right infront and the blower housing is sitting below it. Do I have to remove the blower housing and the cooling unit (that the fan cont amp is plugged into)? I would rather not touch with anything that deals with AC.
Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Also, is there any detrimental effect of leaving this wiring harness unplugged (my guess is that I now do not have ability to "recirculate" interior air)?
Thank you for any help,

If your fan only works on "4" then your "blower motor resistor" is going bad. I've never personally seen one so I don't know what that part is, but a few of my friends had the same problem and that's what it was. Let us know what happens

on auto units, it's called fan control amp but does the same thing basically
pics on my ACC swap page
no more whoring up pyrophilus' thread

I have a '94 gxe with electronic automatic climate control. Previously speeds 1-3 stopped working, and I didn't fix it, just lived with only high speed (#4). Now, even that has stopped working, so I have no fan at all, just whatever circulation is provided by driving at highway speeds. Sounds like I need a fan control amp. What controls speed number four (high speed) on the electronic climate control?

Pyrophilus...sorry I still don't know what that thing is.
How I learned to change my fan control amp...
Everyone whose fan only works in #4 speed (or has stopped working completely after only working on #4), follow the directions in the photo to remove your fan control amp. Replace with new one and reverse directions to re-install it. You will have your fan working again.
By the way, before you get to do this, you need to remove the glovebox... Not just the glovebox door, then entire glovebox...

u can fix the clunking of the motor mine was clicking and when i swapped my ACC in i took it apart and cleaned all contacts and works fine now and my fan never seems to blow at full speed it seems 3 and 4 are the same but if i go in diagnostics it blows faster. is that normal

Hey, how did you get to the intake door unit (to take it out)? I mean, in the picture, it's really buried in there behind the metal bar, and next up against the cooling unit... Do I need to remove the blower motor housing?
