E-Brake handle

I'm trying to install an Ichibahn e-brake handle cover in my 90 SE. It won't fit over the existing handle cover and I was wondering if cutting the rubber/leather(I don't know what it is) would cause any problems or is there another way to do it

You mean this?---

I cut the rubber part with no ill affects. You just have to make sure you support the button so it doesnt get stuck or come out.

Also if you do not have the boot like I have in the picture do not do this. It will look butt ugly because of the metal handle.

I put my handle on upside down so it had a better place for the screws to bite into and put it at the right angle. You dont know this because of the boot though.

Good luck

EDIT: I use my ebrake constantly because I have remote start (so I leave my car in N unless on a big hill) and I have not had the handle slip or mess up on me once.

From DanNY but you can get one from here. I have the shifter boot from them as well.

Yes that is an auto with a manual boot and surround. I just used a cheap shifter handle that I painted.

I still cant believe I painted those pieces blue like that...It was for show but still

Yeah, im not one for trying to make my automatic look like a manual, if im going to do it i gotta do it right and drop a 3rd pedal on the floor.

Oh I wasnt wanting it to look like a manual. I wanted it to look like the newer autos that use a boot. I was eventually going to rig up some type of gear selector that showed what gear you were in but since I am selling the car I never worried about it.

Plus since I was painting the pieces I knew it would look funny for the big auto piece to be blue.

Thats exactly what I meant! Thanks for the help...also where did you get the shift **** from? I'm looking for one that I can order with actual threads and not the cheap plastic "one size fits all" stuff and, I'm assuming you would know where to find this.
Thanks
