voltmeter

Is there any way to hook up a voltmeter to your cigarette lighter? A friend of mine has a radar detector that has a voltmeter built in since I don't have the money to buy a radar detector. I am looking for a cheaper way to add a voltmeter. I don't want a pillar setup though.

Open the panel and solder/add wire for it. I took my 15$ volt/temp gauge input from hazard light 'cause it has continuous input. Now I can see voltage any time; it shows all time how healthy my alt & batt are... No surprises as typically the reading starts to gardually change before fault becomes critical.

U can see the voltage input, pwr input, temp sensor wires coming in at (2.), plus reset (pwr on/off sw) at (1.)
Temp sensor is at front, hanging below bumper.

You need to move into the 21st Century and drop a CD player in that bad boy.

Are you the perosn who has all those green LED lights? I'm not very car savy is there another way maybe that doesn't involve soldering? Where did you get that temp, volt meter? is it in the US?

no CD!
Its original installation Blaupunkt with CD input. Have been trying to get by with the original robust system: C-cassette. Would not like to get the toy tingies of this complicator age... but its now on the purchase list. Will buy another (CD) set and install under this cassette; get softer landing on the too big crap wafers...

Volt/temp Gauge:
The gauge I found first time last year from a accessories shop; should be 'any US' supermarket stuff by lucky chance.

Its problems:
1. have to switch between in/out temps.
2. often goes berserk on starter spikes if I keep it constantly on - feature I insist to see whats gonna happen...
Installed for it a battery pack 'for ten years' there, and now as I want constant measurement always, even through night, needed to install a reset button because of this. So two switches added on my dash (pic: 1.), one reset on the battery, one on/offfor the gauge light which is on always as V-measurement is on... 'stupido' gauge.
The tingie measurment/backlight draws only 5milliamps from my 12V, so it can be always on from that point of view.
