Last night around 2am I was going to a friends place from a TEP(Fraternity) party. There was one heavy person in the back along with 2 light people. In the front, there were two skanks(*****) sitting on top of each other. So the car was loaded. I was traveling on Mass. Ave near Boston when I pulled up to a Mercedes SLK Kompressor on a light. The guy looked at me and I looked at him. All my friends were a big drunk and started yelling me to race...well...with the radio up and all the windows down...peer pressure caught up with me. I turned off the overdrive and gunned it. The Roadster knew what was up so he chirped his tires and took off...I didn't have a chance, luckily the road I was on is a two lane, going over hills and had quiet a few lights. We come up to the next light and he lets me get a head start of a few car lenghts, in a few seconds I saw his rear end. We encountered some traffic up a head and I managed to get ahead of him. After clearing the traffic we lined up and he once again showed off his rear end. At the next traffic light we again line up and start talking. The guy looked like he was in his 30's, had a pony tail and a middle eastern accent. He asked us where we went to school and what the top speed of my car was...I answered 125mph. He smiled and said his was 180 at which point I complimented his car and asked him where he was going to which he answered "to pick up this girl." As the light turned green we again went at it, he was going easy on me so we were lined up, he showed he was going to turn right up a head...he glanced over at my car and one of the girls flashed him and it was over. Overall the speeds of the race were around 60mph and I was scared ****less of getting pulled over because I am sure I wouldn't really pass that breathalizer(sp?) test either.
So that's my first racing story. I know I didn't stand a chance but still it was cool.

I know that...but the peer pressure...the peer pressure...just....too much.
It was still fun, a little too dangerous to ever repeat though.

Heh, 180 mph in an SLK. I thought we had bloated egos about our cars, but that takes the cake

Hummmmmm...now that I think about it..you're right. No way the little convertible can go that fast. I think that it says 180mph on the speedometer...but doesn't actually perform.
I think many new cars have high speedometer top end readings but they can't actually go that fast.
I know that Max SE reads 145 top speed but would anyone actually be stupid enough to try going that fast in stock form? I don't even think the car can go that fast, then again maybe it could.
On my GXE the top speed is 125mph but that's realistic, just not with my old suspension bouncy.

I'm stupid enough to try. Got it between 135 and 140 and still accelerating (albeit very slowly) a few times one night in between traffic (I never pass other cars over 105-110, I'll usually slow down to 90; I don't trust people). My father (previous owner) has told me of the time a few years back he had the needle go past 145. It's actually not really bad at high speeds, not like I thought it would be. I wasn't trying to make any quick movements or anything but it was holding the straight ahead without much/any fuss.

The SLK Kompressor came with a 2.3 185 hp supercharged 4 banger or 3.2 194 hp V6. There are 2 guys here at work who own Kompressor's. One has the 4 banger, the other the V6. I seriously doubt that either one can hit 180 mph. It's a sweet looking car but too rich for my blood.

I'd be more worried about the drinking and driving killing him and all the people in my car.

Roman, my dad's 82' Vette's speedometer ends at 125mph.... I would guess to say that the car can easily surpass that by at least 20mph, if not more

i didn't think those little merc's were all that fast. They're all auto's right? the one i raced didn't do all that well. it was a yellow "kompressor" which i think they call all theirs now i'm not a big mercedes guy, but dude, i wasn't all that impressed. although, he didn't seem to have to try as hard to get the performance out of it. also, thanks for clearing up that skank/**** remark. later

You shouldnt be impressed... those SLKS are like a Compact Version of a SL.... now what u should be impressed is with the V8 500SL's pumpin out over 300hp (think). Well actually they arent that impressive, i can think of a number of cars that have better 0-60s, but Mercedes arent know for their performance, as much as they are for their safety and luxury . Just my 2 cents

I will not mess with any MB's. My dad has two 560's (top speed 160 mph) and they can wipe Max's (close to 5 spds) anyday. I pretty much don't race anyone with my VG......that is until I get some more power mods.

Nice story though...shouldn't really drive drunk, but at least no one got hurt. Blah blah.

yea well the 560s are more comparable to the Q45 (considering price and engine spec wise)... Price-wise, it is more like putting a Maxima against a C-class.... take that into consideration for MB vs nissan

Yeah that's true with the huge price difference. Still, I think that most MB's can spank most VG's. The 5spd VE's are probably close though. I think that most Benz's have around 7 sec to 8 sec 0-60 if not faster.

VG auto 0-60 --> about 9 sec (pretty slow)

ya thats about right, my mom had an 87 MB 300E, which was an inline 6 175hp... prolly 8sec 0-60

now she has a 2000 MB E320, v6 220hp w/ tiptronic(sportshift or whatever the **** ppl call it), and that is closer to like 7-7.5 sec

I've tried pushing my maxima as fast as it will go as well, unfortunately I've got a 91 with the 125 MPH speedometer so I never no how fast I am going, I can bury it easily in 4th gear though.

I was not driving drunk..I just had a few beers which doesn't get me drunk but it would probably register on the breathelizer(sp?) test and I would be screwd.
