92 SE 5-Speed Impressions

Well, I just got my Max after waiting most of the day for it to get back from repairs. I'm loving how easy it is to drive this car. It's fast, it's comfortable, and it just awesome.

Here are some of the issues I've discovered with it.

-Antena doesn't work.
-The Temp gauge is having some problems. It will work sometimes, and other times it just sits there at nothing.
-Did the Max ever come with stock cup holders? Mines got cup holders.
-Damn, that Bose stereo SUX!

Though I'm falling in love with this car fast, I'm also all ready missing my 87 Accord.

I'll post detailed pix soon.

So maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I'm deffinatly replacing the Bose speakers. I currently have Infinity 6.5" that I could put in, but my big question is, can I leave the Bose speakers and install my own head unit? I have a killer Panasonic deck that I would like to put in.

Also, Cruchfield says the 4x6's should go in the front doors, is that the only stock option? what's easy?

Looks like 6x9's in the back?

Bose sucks all around. They are 1 ohm speakers and you will fry them quickly (or the amps) if you use an aftermarket HU. There is an adapter available, but it costs about $50.

At the minimum, I would buy an HU, install your Infinity 6.5s and disconnect the rear speakers.

Your best bet is to replace everything at once, HU and all four speakers. Each speaker has it's own amplifier, so you have to either bypass them (all four) or replace all of the speaker wire in the car with better stuff. This is what I did, but it is kind of expensive and can be time consuming.

The stock size in the front is 4-inch, but you can either ghetto cut the stock pods and fit a 5.25" or a 6.5" or you can buy 6.5" custom made pods from James92SE. I recommend the latter, but I know money is sometimes an issue. The rear speakers are 6x9s and will mount from the bottom perfectly if you leave the rear assemblies in place. Just look how the stock ones are mounted, take them out from inside the trunk and replace.

Your antenna depends on what's wrong. Bad motor, bad mast or bad connection somewhere.

I suggest you pony up $20 (or more if you are generous) to be a donating Maxima.org member, then you can use the search function.

Thanks for your reply Red92MaxSE.

I already have a Panasonic CQ-C8400U deck. I'll look up James92SE. And no worries, once I get over buying the car, getting everything I need, I plan on donating.

Another question. Why do all the Chilton's/Haynes Manuals change at 92? IE 85-92 and 93-2001?

Also, I found a copy of the 94 Factory Service Manual, will that work for most things on my car?

Sorry for all the noob questions.

92 93 94 FSM has all of the same info. They didn't make any changes in the cars for those years, except airbag is an option in 92 and standard in 93 and 94.

I have a 94 FSM and all of the information is the same.

My name is Chris, BTW

Well, first off, thanks Chris. The search tool is my second new best friend in the last 24 hours.

Secondly, it looks like, as I read, that I have the common temp gauge problem. Because this is a new engine compartment, can anyone tell me if the wires for the temp sensor are off the thermostat housing, or somewhere else?

lol a mistake similar to that cost me several hours trying to figure out why my 92's AC wouldnt work after doing my swap (acc to mcc since I put the acc on the 93). I had to get someone with a 92 FSM to show me the wiring diagram to wire one wire up. It was a huge pain in the butt.

if it needs a recharge, retro it.
otherwise leave it. a new refrigerant will be released soon and r134a just trippled (quadrupled in some places) in price.
