finally got her back together

well im done with the tranny and clutch finally but i just took it out for a test drive and the clutch felt nice and firm but it was tough to get it in gear and when i came back i smelt burning and i lifted the hood and some smoke came up so i let it idle for like 20min and it seemed fine
its about 15 degrees out might be the reason for the notchey shifting and i spilt brake fluid all on top of tranny so that might be cause for burning smoke other wise does the clutch need time to break in is this normal i dont wanna drive it around if its going to burn up
