What kind of burning smell?? electrical? oil/gasoline? or hot metal burning smell? Also, where were you when you smell it? Inside the cabin? hood of the car? behind the car? as the door is open? If you can answer those, then it will be easier to diagnose.

Mine smells like that, too. For some strange reason the person that took my engine out of the Japanese car it was in (I have a JDM engine) put a layer of clear coat or lacquer (some kind of clear paint) on the entire engine. I am assuming it was to prevent rust from forming on things. They even put it on the exhaust manifolds, so every time I get it warm I can smell burning paint fumes.

Okay I am not sure what kind...(i dont know what electrical or hot metal smells like) I smell It under the hood. After I furst got the car I figured it needed an oil change so I got one done, but that was 3 months ago. It dont smoke and smells when the engines run enough to get warm.

Any chance it is your breaks? I can usually smell mine when I get out of my car. But then again I drive my car like it's stolen.

i had a burning oil smell from time to time. in my case it was the valve covers. the gaskets are no good and the screws have backed off so i get seapage. i tightened the screws and the smell doesn't seem to come around anymore. i will change the valve cover gaskets some time this summer though and likely loctite the screws so that they don't back out anymore.

Agree with shock, also, just for a sanity check, is your car making a tsk tsk tsk noise on acceleration? If it is, that smell that you are smelling might be exhaust gas leaking from the exhaust manifold due to the broken studs.
