Intake manifold cleaning

I took off my lower intake and throttle body to clean then inside and out, and the upper intake manifold seemed like too much work to get off, so i am wondering if there is anyway to clean the inside of it without taking it off? It had a brown colored coating on the inside for as far as i can see with my flashlight. It doest seem to be too thick but it doesnt wipe off easily. So any suggestions?

There is a spray called intake manifold cleaner. It does a pretty good job cleaning it and also coating it. You don't have to take apart the manifold just get access to the TB. There should be directions on the can itself on how to use it.

Will that stuff hurt the engine though? because the problem that i am faced with is if i spray something into the manifold, i dont have a way of wiping the fluid up afterwards, the only way out for it would be thru the engine...

It burns off when you start the car. There will be some black smoke for a few seconds. You could also use Seafoam to clean the IM. Check the fluids and lubricants section.

i think engine degreasers are used only to clean the oils/dust and crap off of the outside of the block like your engine bay and wat not..id say just spray the intake manifold cleaner. gunk works pretty nice

Gunk sells a good concentration. The only way to get all that stuff out of the manifold is if it goes through the engine. Unplug the MAF, start the car and spray directly into the manifold with the thrittle wide open. If you want to do a good job then bring a rag and a stick. After spraying half a can or for about 1 min. Wipe the inside of the TB and the Butterfly clasp.
When spraying the engine might sound like it's about to die. That's the engine burning up all the residue in the manifold.

Take it off, buy 3 cans of CRC green brake cleaner, take off the VI cover and go to town.
