Strong vibrations at times
#1
Even though the RPM's are at the normal range while idling at a light, the car sometimes vibrates to the point where it annoys me. The dealer has told me before that I need new engine and tranny mounts. Is it a DIY job and if it is, how long would it take? I'm thinking this could be the cause of the vibrations and it wouldnt hurt either way.

It probably is the mounts...
But I'm not sure that it's a DIY fix though. You'd have to ask someone like Jeff92SE or Justin McBee for sure though, they'd know.
But I'd agree with the dealer on this one, it is most likely those mounts. They wear out/break over time, and send the vibrations of the engine/tranny in to the car instead of absorbing them via the mounts.

I think it's your mounts also. While many might argue that you should "repair" the mounts with urethane or something like that, I don't think that's a good idea for reliability reasons. Anywho, the only way you'll be able to replace the engine mounts yourself without it being SUPER hard is to have air tools, jack stands, 2 jacks, and some scrap wood.
You'd need to put the car on jack stands, support the engine with a two jacks just to be safe, or maybe even jack stands. Once the engine is supported you'd remove one motor mount at a time (one in fron the of the car, one between engine in firewall). Or, the LH and RH side of the engine. The tranny has two mounts, LH and RH also. These bolts should be extremely hard to break loose by hand, so that's where the air tools come in. Definately a day's job if you're doing on the ground. Damn I'm glad I can use a lift! I would hate to do that kind of work on my gravel driveway :0)
