Since the body shop i went to decided to tear my leather and leave it vulnerable to the elements i need to do my interior sooner than i planned.

So where can i get the best quality leather for a reasonable price? I want to get black perforated leather(dont really need the door inserts). If anyone has some pictures let me know what product tickles your fancy...

well I believe the only available kit for our car is Katzkin.

I got mine from ATD1.com. leatherseats.com also sells them.

I paid $565 shipped for the seats, console lid, installation tools and door panel inserts. They have several options which cost more (heated, perferated like you want, color inserts etc etc). i am pretty sure you cant get them without the door panel inserts.

check the group deal forum first to see if there is a deal going on. If not then contact each place to get some quotes. Be sure and let them know you are calling the other place so you can get the best price (negotiate just like you would for a car lol).


You can always go to a local upholstery place to get a quote but they are usually much more expensive than the Katzkin and maybe not even as high a quality.

All I can tell you is I love my seats and am very glad I got them

Ill be up there this summer. Im trying to get to the shows around there. I was going to get some leather like yours without the "maxima" on them but now i just want jet black and perforation. Don't sell your maxima man. You will be sorry, so will I.

How hard is it to get the leather to fit? I want to do it myself but I want to make sure it looks professional, I havn't done a full interior before. Also i know that 3rd gens have different lines in the seats, do they take this into account when you order?

everything mike just said I love my seats too. Ill take some pics later, the install wasnt that hard, theres a few spots I would have liked to get tighter but I can always go back with some extra padding if it doesnt tighten up over time.

all the 3rd gen patterns are the same as far as Katzkin goes. Look at Chris' seats then look at mine. They are the same pattern (just different colors).

Its pretty close to the SE pattern though but not close enough that you would want to cover only the back because it will not match the front.

Its not too difficult to install if you take your time. Honestly I wouldnt buy the installation kit they sell with the seats though. You can go to a CO-OP and get a much nicer set of hog ring pliers and hog rings for much cheaper. The pliers they sent me were cheap and broke on my last seat. I got a much stronger and easier to work with pair of pliers for only a couple bucks...and the hog rings are only a couple bucks as well.

It is time consuming and your hands will be sore though. I think the hardest part is getting the old hog rings off of the seats...I found a set of mini bolt cutters at sears I wish I would have had when I did my seats. They would have made cutting the hog rings off much easier.

The only problem I had was with the console lid cover. The cover they sent did not fit. I hat to take it to a shop and have it put on. He wound up re sewing it to make it fit correctly. It only cost me like $20 or so though.

ok they are doing the group deal till april. my order came up to about $700. i got all black with perforation, perforated e-brake boot and perforated shift boot. no inserts. im going to call again tommarrow to make sure.

if you are parting out your max, I'll drive personally to PA and pick up your complete interior ( all 4 seats, carbon fiber stuff etc etc ), body kit, uk corners and bmw headlight.
