replacing seatbelts

I have tan seatbelts. I'd like to be able to swap them for black ones, since mine are old and dirty. Anybody know how I can do that, or where I can buy the belts?

A junk yard. Or if you really want to go cheap, dye them. If I remember right, you'll need a T-30 Torx bit to take out the bolt. I could be confused with my truck though

junk yard, someone parting out on the org in the for sale section or like kcidmil said dye them.

You do not need a torx bit. You will need a 14 mm socket for the ones in the trunk, under the rear seat and in the B pillar. I cant remember what socket the seat belts under the console are (probably 14) but you will know when you get there.

I have done this on a couple of cars and most recently to my 92SE...not a big deal at all.

One tip I have though is to go ahead and take the front seats out. Its easier to get to things and the drivers seat will have to come out anyway since there is a bracket in the way that will need to come up to get the sealt belt out of the B pillar.

Okay, guess I was thinking of my Frontier when I said the torx bit. I wish I could have just gone out into the garage and checked... but it's on the otherside of the world right now

That's okay... not much longer and I'll be home

yea, they are all 14 mm other then the ones in the center console those at 12mm I just did think 2 or 3 weeks ago when I did my carpet which I definatly suggest doing at the same time.

when you swap the carpet, just cut it under the ECU, its hella easyer.

to change the rear shoulder harnesses you have to take out the back seat, and the rear deck, so you can take out the rear pilar piece c pillar? i dunno what its called, tehre is a 14mm bolt under there you need to take out, then one more in the trunk.

just be sure that the car that you take them out of was never in an accident.

seatbelts stretch after accidents (assuming that they're being worn by the occupants) - after the stretch, they're technically useless

Take them by a dealer after you get them... LOL. Just complain you think something is wrong with the seat belts. And you'll get a new black set.

The driverside seatbelt in my 94 GXE doesnt have hardly any retraction tension, would i need to replace the whole unit or can it be adjusted or something?

actually, if memory serves me correctly, seatbelts are one of those lifetime warranty deals and should be replaced no prob by a dealer

yeah but i don't think they'd do it just cause i want a new color or because the belts aren't clean enough.

i agree...that's why i was responding to the "no retraction" concern of My94GXE
