abs problem

I just went out to get a drink and I noticed a buzzing sound coming from under my hood after the car was turned off. I opened the hood and Identified that the buzzing was coming from a part (sorry I don't know what it's called) located on the passenger side of the vehicle towards the front of the car. I think it's part of the abs system. I also noticed that the abs warning lite is turning on as well. What could the buzzing sound indicate? How serious would this be?

thanks

This same issue was presented here some 2mths ago. If I remember right: Inside ABS assy theres a pump, and its relay has shorted(=ON always). Open the plastics cover and check out. Maybe hitting the relay with screwdriver handle [hammer will solve all problems] will loose those contacts... Take connectors/relays out, clean contacts, reinsert. If no help, replace relay.

Check out and clean the assy gnd wire to chassis: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/748507/10

oh man, thanks wiking. I couldn't get all of the connectors off. Man they were really on there, but I started taping around that abs system with the plastic end of a screwdriver, and finally I tapped this black box thing that was to the left of the abs system, and it immediatly stopped buzzing.

So just out of curiosity, I gather it wouldn't be to good to leave it as it was would it? I mean eventually that pump inside would have died out right? Or is it really not that serious. If the pump inside did die out, could the pump be replaced, or would the whole system have to be replaced?

thanks alot, I don't know if it was all for nothing, but I was really woried about that. I depend a lot on this car, and I've gone through enough crap with it already. I do still love it though.

this post makes me happy i don't have abs, too many problems for a stopping distance that brake upgrades can account for.
I'd say if the tapping stopped it, you should be fine for now. Just start checking out those parts on ebay or junkyards to price them. But if it happens to fail, you've still got brakes, just not abs.

I think u hit the right relay. Typically this might never (?) bother u again, but I would go to stealership and buy that new relay.

The relay contacts have burned, replacement or open/clean is the only possibility. Cleaning will help, not solve as the contacts characteristics have changed due to burn heat... There are some 100 other relays waiting to be replaced u know, one of the most famous keeping u stranded is the inhibit relay under water reservoir, inside a box (VG).

I suppose the only real problem is the pump draining u batt if it is ON overnight, dunno how much it draws amps.

Just Listen as u leave the car.

ABS opinion: I would not have my max any more if not ABS... U know these disconnected blondies who cannot separate green with red lights. ABS works magnifiently when all contacts are cleaned!
