Odometer reading wrong
Does anyone else have a problem with their odometer? Mine stopped at about 125,000 and i'm pretty sure there are close to 250,000 miles (or more) on the car now. Sometimes it works and sometimes (most of the time) it doesn't work at all. I can reset my trip odometer but there's no way of knowing when it'll kick on. Any suggestions?

Do the shake down, check for loose wires first, but this process maybe lengthy due to the fact that you have to drive like a mile before you can tell if it works or not.
Second opinion would be to take the gauge cluster out, and apart, then take a look at the where the odometer is, check if its gear are still intact, and if the motor that operates it is still functional.
To add, my trip odometer is broken when I aquired my car, turned out the previous owner mash the reset switch in, resulting in a crack on the main gear that drives the trip odometer, and it would sometimes caused the odometer to halt counting as well. I have since disengaged the broken side of the odometer.

Noo, Check the wiring to the sensor. Then check the sensor output. If all those ok, possibly your odorm... or bad connections.

The only way to troubleshoot this kind of problem is to take the cluster out, put apart all your dash and follow the wiring with Volt and Ohm meter until you find the problem. Takes a lot of time and you will curse everything.

my advice to you....is take your instrument cluster out.. I can almost gaurantee a wire got fried back there...re-solder the fried wires...check for blown fuses, and reasemble...
It turned out the wire on the back of mine was most likely from the Speed sensor- which controls stuff like, how many miles you go and the trip thing, and all the stuff that aint working.
if you DONT have any fried wires on the back of the instrument cluster, then check to see if your speed sensor is working correctly..its in the tranny, but can be changed with 1 bolt, and easy to do.

Even perfect fine looking clusters may have broken odometers and sometimes swapping the cluster does not fix the problem. Do not expect an eazy solution in any way. Your luck if you can resolder the joints and that will be the end of it - if it's not, you are in for the long troubleshooting I described above.
Even fine looking clean and lubricated odometers may not work... The problem is out there somewhere, it's just hard to find which of the contacts is dead. Electric problems in the cars can drive anybody nuts, including most experienced mechanics with electric background.
