Struts

so my '93 gxe has around 116,000 miles, it is mine now, but was previously my moms, she bought it at around 85,000 miles and had never replaced the struts. before she bought it, it belonged to my mom's boyfriends aunt. i don't think she every replaced the struts or anything like that. i've noticed that my tires have begun to hop across the road when accelerating quickly out of a street while turning where as they used to spin and burn some rubber, also when i go over small bumps, the tires hop off the road. Anyone else think it is time to get new struts?

also, is it better to get new springs when you get new struts or does it matter at all?

Check your tire pressure too, because sometimes that can throw things off.

replace those strut ASAP!!! you car is currently unsafe, when your struts no longer perfrom their job of keeping your tires on the ground you lose the ability to brake effectively and manuever safely.
have you ever had a car jump sideways on you? I have, my car had blown struts and that was the cause.

Here's my suggestion. Weld a roll cage into the car, take it offroading and show it off. Or you could just replace the struts and have a nice smooth running car again. It's up to you.

depends, are you plan on lowering it a little?

If yes, go ahead and get the new springs... but I'd recommend better struts (tokico or Koni)

If no, keep the stock springs, and get new struts (midas, etc.)

You definately should get new struts. If you are on a tight budget, the kybs can be had on ebay for about as cheap as autozone monroe's. That will definately help with your wheel hop issue.

How hard would it be to put a roll cage in a maxima?

1st you must strip the interior... as well as the paint around the areas where you're going to weld the piping in. Basicly... a real pain

What will mama say if u gonna waste u money on such fancy tingies? After all, the whole generation has had no problims so far...

People pay huge sums to get car hoppin, and u get it all frree. U'll lose that feature if u replace u hoppers, my recommendation is: dont be a girlieman, drive another 116k. U'll get everybodu happy, ppl will have fun on the highway watching the maxitireless hopping...

lol, yeah. but it's not too fun when i'm going around a corner and feel as though i might hit a tree. It was funny when my mom first got it, the lady was like "i've never driven it hard at all" my mom was like, "don't worry, i'll break it in for ya" lol. I think my mom really likes maxima's. before this one, she had a 90 se that she gave to my brother when he started driving. but now she has a 2001 3.2 cl-s. pretty nice car. and i'm kinda jealous of my sister, she is going to be getting either a 2004 maxima or 2004 g35 coupe. i know one thing is for sure, i will take my car anyday over my bro's 97 accord. peice of crap

U'll beat her with the independent rear axle: pretty sure (?) she's got the indian chasing REAL rigid steel wagon axle, so called 'susPension'.

All 4,5gens are jealousy of this view:
