Knocking Behind the glovebox

Hi All,
I have a knocking sound from behind my glove box. It is not the blower fan.
It starts as soon as the key is turned. If I press the auto button the knocking stops. The knocking will continue if the fan is in econ or turned off. (automatic cluster)
any help would great...

it's ghosts i tell ya...

sounds like a mechanical malfuction in the ducts. i wish i could be more specific but i'm just taking a stab. there are moving parts inside there that open and close depending on what the cc is set to.

One fan, on left side there's a flap actuator which is possibly jammed: ask Pyrophilus how he solved his problem; he has got also pics.

I think maybe stepper motors on evap box. I remember when I took out my acc unit. There was a contol wire attached to it that went back to the evap box. Maybe that could be it.

mine did the same thing for about a year-18 months..when that started, I got stereo to cover it up...its worn itself, whatever it may be, to a point that if its really quiet you can kinda hear somthing with a slight rotational squeek.

When it started, and still made the tapping sound, you could play with the a/c and heat settings all you want, fan speed, whatever..the only thing that changed it was turning the resurculator on would slow it down a LITTLE bit.

I just let the gremlin beat itself to unconsiousness.

Had a noise when blower went on, caused by a small branch that slipped into the vents at the base of the windshield. It went through a number of sound variations(as the blower motor wittled it down.
