I don't think it's a "waste" really...

It was 90 bucks shipped and works great!

CAI

if i hadn't bought my CAI i woulda made one....me and my buddy did it for his corrolla and its awesome...all you really need to do is figure out measurements and hit up JC whitney...they sell lengths of mandrel bent aluminized steel...we ordered these for the corrolla and basically modeled it after the AEM intake that is made for the car...you can also order brackets and fittings you need from them....

Custom CAI

If I were you guys I would just get a K&N cone filter and instead of running lots of piping and risking water ingestion to the engine. Move the battery to the trunk and create a custom cold air box (open on the topside and front of car) around the filter itself. This is very effective For outside air cut a hole next to where the battery is in the fender well and make sure your box is blocking the power robbing radiator/engine heat. Look in SCC's issue that has the new civic on the cover...i think its the current one. They tell all about this. I will try this when I have time and I know it will yield nice results. Don't waste your money if you are mechanically inclined at all.

Has anyone tried to make an intake that sits about where the fog lights are. I was going to try to make one and was wondering what you guys thought about that.

92GXE, touring wing, 18” racing wheels, Port&Polished intake, custom intake, custom yellow interior, racing seats, back seats taken out and replaced with subs and amps, NOS kit, Suspension tech. Lowering springs, custom grille, soon to be custom painted and have the whole engine rebuilt for big shot NOS and custom SC and tranny converted to 5-speed.

You mean like ram air

Just remember with all the air that gets sucked in you suck in everything else. Not to mention that would be some lengthy intake piping.

One thing to remember is that the longer the piping, the less suction you get, and if you have to much length, you will end up losing power. But I am also very interested in this project so keep me up to date.

As Canuck stated, there IS an "optimum" length and size for intake ducting.. these are based on the borexstroke of the engine and the RPM range you want the engine to produce the most power at. Just sticking yards of 3" or 4" ducting on the intake will produce some weird results.. Don't be surprised when you end up with tons of low end torque, but almost no high-end HP. (that's basically what will happen if you stick a long pipe on there).

So if I need some low end torgue, but have plenty of high end horse, then i should add some piping?

Matt is there some formula or equation for this?

If I wanted some extra low end, how much pipe should I use, where should I get it, and how should I fit it?

Thanks

I think If I can make a pipe that goes stright down from the throttle body and around the radiator behinc the fogs, then I can make an intake that is just as short as stock but acts as a ram air. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should mount it without sucking in a lot of dirt that I wouldn't want.
