replacing engine-VE

Hello guys,
as some of you may know, I'll be changing the engine in my "new" 92 se. The question that I have is this-will I have to remove the trany and the axles befire pulling the engine out? I've never done this and I am simply trying to envision the whole procedure before starting. Also, my father in law told me that I'll probably have to realign the clutch after I drop the new engine in. Do I need a special tool for that and pretty much some basic info will be really helpfull. How much time should it take? I have pretty much every imaginable tool. Thank you all in advance....

In the stickies. Don't ask me why it's in the MODIFICATIONS section when it's more of a repair. Ask mrgone about that.

I just performed that same task a couple of weeks ago. Despite random setbacks (due to site of work and parts and whatnot) the "in-and-out" of the engine wasnt too bad I must say. I was able to keep the tranny mated to the engine and pulled both out of the top together. These engines are made to drop down, so if you pulling from top then hook up to the exhaust manifolds (assuming the studs are all in good shape and not broken of course). the only thing I had to deal with when actually in the process of pullin the engine, was I had to take all of the tranny mounts off to have enough room to be able to kinda twist and lean the engine to the tranny side to pull the whole assembly out. I chose to pull everything together because I didnt have anything to raise the tranny up with if I mounted it seperate.

Also you should just buy a new clutch for the engine cause youll have more than easy access to install it with the engine out. And with the new clutch kit will come a clutch allignment tool.

I would also reccomend changing the pilot bearing too cause its a $3.00 (litterally) part and if you dont and its bad on the new engine then your gonna kick yourself in the **** when you have to pull the tranny and everything to change it.

Other than that Good Luck and God Speed my friend.
